SLK32 Performance Questions
I have a 181 pulley and tune on order from Eurocharged. I am also ordering a DCAI and would like some input on supporting mods before I place my order. This is my daily driver, reliability is important!
1. Cooling. I have noticed percieved heatsoak with any aggressive driving. I know the new pulley will not help, and want to battle this issue. What do you recommend keeping in mind cost is a factor here...
-Supercooler/Eurocharged HE, at $450, the most expensive but is this the most effective?
-Johnson CM30 IC pump, at $200, I am skeptical of just circulating more hot water through the system... faster(unless adding cooler, which I cant afford both right now, but will later)
-Radiator/HE isolation/separator kit, at $70 this seems to be a bargain, and even something I can easily fab myself. How much benefit might you see from separating the two?
-Radiator fan on 10 degrees sooner... Free with tune.
2. Fuel - What is the threshold for mods before these cars run out of Fuel? Is/are the weak link/links in the Fuel Pump, Injectors, Rail, Pump Wiring, Fuel Pressure Regulator? I hear the pulleys dont require a tune from Rob at Needswings, however other SC cars I have modded always ran lean after a pulley.
3. Pulley Saver Kits - Needswings/etc... $200. Is there really that big of problem with the pulleys? I'm trying to justify the expense and have heard mixed reviews.
Any suggestions welcome!

Well, you will get a whole lot of opinions. There are a lot of threads on here dealing with everyone of the questions you just asked. I guess my question is what are you going to be doing with it? Round tracking, you need some cooling, drag racing...I don't agree with many on drag racing. I do run the seperation kit on both my cars. It helps. I am sure you will get a lot of help...here...
I can tell you for sure here in CO we see higher temps for the IAT's due to the elevation......I have many mods on my car and the biggest hurdle you have is heat saturation of the intake charged air. Free flowing intake is a first step even before the pulley in my opinion. I run a dual 3" CAI and it works well with the 62mm S/C pulley and tune. Fuel delivery only becomes an issue if you push the engine all the time (racing) I only have been to Bandimere 2 times and it was not an issue. For spirited street driving the fule system is sufficient. If you want to be the fastest you can get all kinds of tips from people on this site. You can go as fast as you can afford. But if you don't want to break things keep to the tried and ture mods well documented on this site.

Are there any needswings alternatives? I would like to have my intake by next weekend... considering this solution from maxcichon, although its not quite as sexy as the needswings DCAI:

Curiously, my first SLK32 (it is the earliest of my 3 SLK32s which are all 2002s) was/is lacking a mounting boss (that is part of the waterpump casting) that the Pulley Saver Kit relies on for mounting. I did a little research and concluded it was correct (and original). My other 2 SLK32s have the boss on the pump (and they have original pumps as well).
I discovered this after I had already received my Pulley Saver Kit and Rob (Needswings) excepted the return without hesitation (great guy, great business).
I only mention this so that you look at your SLK32's water pump before you order.
I have a 181 on that car and with a new belt properly tensioned, I still smell a curious odor after spirited boosting that I attribute to mild belt slip (smells like opening a fresh box of bandaids) ... So IMHO this vehicle (and yours trevorradman) would definitely benefit from the PSK.
The NEEDSWINGS catch can is a beautiful piece doing a much needed job and is a must-by. Considering its quality it is very fairly priced.

Thanks for the suggestions, I ordered both, along with some intake gaskets for after I clean my intake. Next up is cooler/pump... After that maybe a little nitrous or stacked pulleys, or both. Not sure if I'll need more fuel at this altitude.

I installed the pulley and only picked up 2.6 lbs of boost(12.63 total at WOT). The perf increase was ok, however I'm moving up my priorities to add a crank pulley, HE, and pump.
I dont want to mess with fuel right now, however I am really considering the 185... How much will the DCAI increase boost? I'd hate to buy the 181 and 'have'(hahaha) to buy the 185. I want to be at 17lbs.
Hopefully I'll have the other parts from Rob next week.

Stock tires? What was your 60'? Thanks for the info, gives me at least something to shoot for.
