Default Oil Catch Can and cleaner tips...

I've had my oil catch can (home-built) installed for a few months now and one of the side benefits I've noticed is that no matter what gas I buy (93 only) wherever I buy it, my exhaust tips remain very clean. And I mean NO black sooty crud that y'all know about.

Any one else notice this?

It means to me, in my covoluted way of thinking, that not burning that oily crud is actually quite noticeable. At the rear end of the car...

Yes? No?

I should mention that my design is a very efficient removal tool. Not just an eBay special, even though I used a $20 can and fittings from there to start with!

No change noticed here with the NW can.

God willing, I can have mine on and get some miles on it before the winter hits, but the new daily is taking a lot of my time.

Will try to let you know as soon as its done...

Funny.

My neighbors replace their cars when they get dirty. A bucket, let alone 2, are things that they just don't/won't know how to use!

THe fuel curve is altered by the relative boost and so its much more of an issue with the ecu trying to match the F/A values. It errs on the rich side to be safe, Iam at 14.7 with smooth granny driving but all over the map with spirited driving.

No change whatsoever.....but your thread reminded me that I forgot to drain my catch can when I did an oil change on Friday to get ready for the Dragon trip. Got about four ounces of crude since last change. Thanks for the reminder.

Noticed a big stream of oil under the car after sitting a couple days after getting back from the 2000 mile return Dragon trip. Traced it to the bottom drain **** on the catch can. It was still tight but leaked out till it vwas empty. Had to put teflon tape on the theads to stop it. Anyone else have this issue?

Oops!
The instructions say that Teflon tape is applied to the threads when installing the catch can.

I assume that those are the threads you mean. If it's the drain itself it must be
faulty.

I actually read this originally but doubted the need for tape because of the number of threads. Didn't really consider the pressurization could force oil past the threads.

PS I was quite happy to find the leak at the catch can as the oil was dripping from the black cast steering box so I was fearing the worst.

Pressure does not come into it, it reaches atmospheric pressure only when the engine is off. Air will get into the system passing the threads when the engine is running.

It just leaks because it is a pipe thread and they do not seal as there are gaps at the bottom of the threads. It's a good job you do not do gas pipe installations.

I have never checked my can yet, I do not expect too much.

It'll soon be time to get the covers out. They put brine down on some roads last week.

I was surprised by how much had leaked out since my trip. Drained the catch can before I went and there was enough to run down the fender onto the floor and roll past the front bumper. Thats got to be four or five ounces?

Gonna drive my car all winter.......just kidding. A couple weeks and that will be it for me.

I got to the middle of November last year. Then I went to Florida and picked up the 6 and packed it away for the winter after it got greeted by an ice storm the night it arrived. Welcome to Canada.

Brrrrrrrrr

Okay problem solved. The teflon tape is only required where the fitting threads into the catch can. There is supposed to be a little black O-ring that sits in the threaded cap. Mine must have stuck to the bottom of the catch can spigot instead of staying in the cap and then fallen into my drain/coffee cup. Just found the cup still upside down in my oil used oil collector/ pan and low and behold there is my o-ring stuck to the bottom of the coffee cup.

Thanks BEANER !
