Cold Air Intakes...Snake Oil?
I would have expected smoother to be faster also.
Yeah, I wonder why the craze to remove the baffles, but if you think it's faster I guess it is.
There is nothing smooth about the air flow in my SRT6. It is supercharged, therefore the air is being compressed and released. Not a breeze in a nursery.
After seeing the data for the single CAI on the SRT-6 it begs the question how much more can be gained with the Needswings dual CAI also with no additional mods? I understand the need for a tune to get the most out of your mods, but would like to see what can be expected by just doing the modification.
Well a lot can be gained. Plenty of experimentation thru out the forum. Everyone has their way to make HP. I went my way, and others have went theirs. Most will peak close to 370 at the wheels, meaning over 400 at the crank. It only costs $$$$$ to get there. I have done 2 so with no plans to do much more. I have 1 more mod each for the my 2 cars and it is what it is. No more experimenting, and no more modding. It holds it's own with just about anything except triple figure cars. Never going to compete with store bought race cars like the GT-R, or ZL-1...but for the 50K I have invested in 2 cars, I am having fun with them and don't mind driving them anywhere.
How well an aftermarket CAI works usually comes down to two things.
How restrictive the original factory equiptment is, and how well the aftermarket intake was designed to flow.
That being said, the NeedsWings CAI on an automatic equipped Crossfire will cut nearly 1/2 sec. off its 1/4 mile ET's.
I don't know what that works out to be in Net H.P. But it's a significant performance increase.

i installed the TWT intake on my car, along with the 3.5" MAF housing. It whole installation made a big difference, but I think that it was the combination of items that really made a difference. In particular, the MAF housing is the real choke point in the system.
