Default MCM turbo build

Hey guys i just watched a 3 part video on a turbo build with a mazda mx-5 if you have time its a good video to watch, Im posting this because i am just wondering if we can do the same with our crossfires custom job what is the reason why we cannot do this with our cars on low boost?

I have seen a one or two turbo crossfire threads not sure if completed is this the way you went about doing it? anyways if you guys happen to watch the videos let me know what you think and if im missing why this cant be done please explain, I have done some research with our high compression engines and silly ecus but just if the ecu is replaced and tuned can it be done!

thanks!

A couple reasons it's hard:

1) There's not a lot of room in the engine compartment like there is with a Miata.

2) The ECU on the N/A is very complex and not programmed to manage boost, so you need either crazy engineering or a third-party engine management system. Once you put in a third-party engine management system the rest of the car's computers are unhappy and a lot of work is required to get things back to normal.

3) Few people try because buying and modding an SRT-6 is cheaper.

I think the real reason is 3 - 1 and 2 are surmountable as evidenced by the couple of one-off turbo owners.

Put it this way ,I have been on the forum now for eight yrs , and it has not been done yet ,because of all road blocks that you got too go through , be easy to too tune and do few other things for NA or drop the V8 in it like few have done , but you will need some big bucks to do that ,

Sure go right ahead.

Keep Us posted along the way!

Are You a really good ( read world class outstanding ) German car mechanic?

Do You have a huge budget to start this project?

Do you not need the car for at least a Year?

Do You really love to do things that have never been done before?

Then turboing a crossfire might be the job for You.

Easy, 32 amg ECU unlocked and coded to your car, MAP sensor, and get rid of the MAF sensor.

I know you have been doing massive R&D and know a lot more than me, but I have been here a little while and seen more than a few guys try this.

If it were as easy as you say above, why has no one done it?

Because it could be expensive and is time consuming lol. Bob and Web 3.0 were the guys who already suggested and figured out it would work.

You may not even need DAS if you're good with a soldering iron. The coding is in the immo... You just swap it over. I would still buy DAS though so you can check ECU connections and make sure the pin-outs are the same. You can't trust the Chrysler wiring diagrams what so ever, serious headache and wrong in a lot of places.

I think the 32 amg ecu's came with the hardware to run the key and cruise, therefore the 6-speed would work as well. I am just guessing on that though, I havent torn apart one of those. The V8 ECU's are missing all kinds of crap on the back. Pics will get up on my thread in a bit.

Lmao, yep. Bob mentioned it in his conversion diary a few times and Web actually did it. It would work for any FI.

Seems he was right at the point of thinking you could wipe and reprogram the stock NA's to control boost.. "After" he had utilized an SRT6 if I'm not too far off base in recall.

I'm pretty sure the NA board is missing smd's accepting input for boost and talking to the microprocessors. He ended up with the 32 ECU instead of the AEM aftermarket unit or piggyback or whatever that thing was lol.

NVM just checked you were right lol. So yeah it would be really easy then. Just need DAS with developer.

That would work lol, I would feel more comfortable being with the car for the first one so that if the coding isn't right I can try something different on the spot but yeah lol. Shoot, someone has something ready to go I'll code it for free. Just pay shipping both ways. I'll look into it some more but if he just plugged it in, coded it and took off then it would take a matter of a beer to do it. So shipping and 4 bucks cause I like heineken lol.

Ok, I was right before...

It is now down to the following:

AEM F/IC
Stare DAS
Injectors
Shift Solenoids
Rotrex
Single Plane Rotrex mount
a simple bracket and cable extension to relocate the cooling reservoir
New serpentine belt
IC pump and HE
Cold side plumbing with BOV
Tuning Aides - SPD, Wideband, and Knock Sensor

So yeah, 32 amg ecu coded to your car. and checking the harness configuration.

The fact that web got the SRT ECU to work says a lot. But if you want control in DAS it needs to be Mercedes, which means 32 AMG. Like I said in my thread, I'll help whoever with whatever. I'll tell them what to code, how to code, what to solder, what file to use etc... I have a lot to pay forward at this point lol. For those who don't trust themselves with soldering smd's, or don't wan't to invest in the right equipment then I can do it for them. I made some booboo's which is why my car isn't running yet. Trial and error, now I know better.
