Default Idler Pulley (not tensioner) seized...why?

2007 Crossfire Coupe. Have shredded two belts in as many days. Replaced the tensioner today, but it appears that the idler pulley (#4 on the belt diagram) may have seized up.

It will only turn if the bolt holding it in is loosened a bit.

1. What could cause the seize?
2. How do I fix it if it's more than just that pulley?

Thanks guys... this is getting to be an expensive fix....

$122 for the tensioner...... $30 for the belt.....

Need to know why the pulley would seize

1. high milage
2. defective bearing ( I had the tensioner bearing start squeaking on my 2002 Concorde, I injected some WD40 and it held out another month until I got around to replacing it )
3. excessive tensioner strength

Is this an NA or a SRT6 ? The load on the idler differs depending.

Easy. Remove the belt, remove the plastic cap over the idler bolt, remove the bolt holding the old bearing, install new bearing, install belt.

( the new bearing comes with the idler shell, you don't have to press out any bearings )

17mm socket for the boss on the tensioner to remove belt, T50 for the idler bolt ( use some LocTite on the bolt when reinstalling )

see post #2

or if you are looking locally, don't forget to ask for 2003 Mercedes slk320 or slk32 or C320 etc.

ok... so this is why we were so confused... this is all that was left of the pulley... makes total sense now.....
1. Tensioner replaced.
2. Idler pulley replaced.
3. Belt replaced.
4. Two new rear tires.....

LOL - now makes sense. You do still have the mounting bolt, right ?
Then just order and replace the pulley.
