Default 2004 CROSSFIRE Garrett GT 35R Upgrade

Aloha CrossFire Forum.
I have a 04 6spd. base model and have to say it is a fun car to drive! But it needs more power as we all know. This site has been a go to place for information when i have an issue or ideas of how i want to build my CrossFire. So i decided to go the way of the turbo for the power issue. And with that comes a whole bunch of other issues, so i would really appreciate any help and suggestions i can get! I just got me a Garrett Turbo from my boss (awesome)
i don't have all the specs on it but he said it's a GT35R. On the cast EC-1 A/R .70, it's a good size but is it too big? I plan on a full rebuild of the engine before the turbo install. Next would be the ECU can anyone recommend a piggy back system? I'm looking at the PowerMod Interceptor. I'd like to make at least 400HP. Thank you!

Well good luck and godspeed Sir. You are in for a most fantastic voyage. I might recommend you post Your build thread in the actual engine forum as opposed to the welcome I'm new forum. In it you will find 6 or more other turbo build threads to join hands with.

Hahaha actually I do visit the site fairly often. And have been getting ready to do a build on my car, after reading the stories here I think I'm ready to put together a unique car.

The gt35 is a awesome fast spool ball bearing turbo. There has been a front mounted single and a front mount twin turbo setup (if you want reference for placement and piping).
On the motor rebuild. We have forged crank and rods. But hypereutecnic pistons that is the weak link. The alusil coating on the cylinders is one of the best and one of the worst things about our engines.
RODS-From what I do I have found out about our rods they are good for around 110 horsepower per rod.(if anyone knows different plz let me know).
Pistons- NOBODY makes options for us. Unless custom made. I finally found a a piston and rod to get some accurate measurements off of (thanks to a dedicated forum member) I should have it next week.
TUNING- THE HARDEST PART. If you find a way to tune a original N/A car to accept turbos/boost and still retain all of benefits that we have like the dual spark, you will be envy of MANY and open the door for lots more options. And possible raise the price of our cars. And make you lots of money.
Euro charged is the best place for tuning so far
6SPD- it is good for 300-400 HP I can't remember any closer number
I would love to have a twin gt15 or gt20 setup.
has anyone tried or attempted a custom cams??

I'm not questioning you per se, as I don't have any better sources... but is this accurate? I've heard it repeated (from multiple sources nonetheless) that the reason manual transmissions aren't offered on the really high-performance Mercedes vehicles, is they don't have any MTs that will handle the torque. Is this inaccurate? I know Josh has reported positively with his NA 6MT transmission with the V8 swap though... Don't remember what his numbers are offhand. Inquiring minds want to know

Welcome my friend....my first suggestion, and it is a good one, is read thru all the threads containing the word..."TURBO" before you spend a lot of money on parts.

Hey thanks for the suggestion! It just so happens that I have been blessed to access to a warehouse full of parts. And a super cool boss who is an auto enthusiast and has been in business for quite some time now so I'm in pretty good hands. I am extremely grateful for any and all helpful advice, so thanks guys for the welcome!

Speedy I really appreciate your response! Yes reference to the single TURBO placement and piping would be a great help! Yeah the pistons may be an issue I've been told. So that's something to research a bit more. And the tuning I know will be the hardest part. From what I see the PowerMod interceptor does look promising. But like you said EuroCharged already has a formula, so I'll try contacting them and see how they can help me with that aspect of the build. As far as the 6spd, manual transmission is a must for me so if the stock trans dies maybe a T-56 may be in order? Is that possible? Now custom cams, that's an exciting thought! TURBO specific wide power band and maybe more top end would be exciting! I do wish a twin turbo E55 was in the cards but it's going to be a fun build!

I wish you the best of luck, after all, someone needs to replace Magnum and his Ferrari 308 GTS over there.
