Default Valve Cover Leak and Torque

I replaced my valve cover gaskets because I had a small leak at the rear cylinders from the original gaskets. After driving for a while, just noticed it is leaking again slightly on at least one side. I torqued to the factory spec (can't recall, but I think about 8 ft lbs) and used lock tight.

Are others experiencing this issue? Anyone tried tightening them a bit more, how much more, and any good results?

Can't believe nobody replied, but I upped the torque to 9 ft lbs on the bottom bolts this weekend. We will see...

maxcichon and I replaced all the bolts with SS hex bolts with lock washers and torqued to 8 #. ( actually 90 inch/lbs )
Been a year now, and no sign of any leaks.

Alax
When you changed out your valve covers did you need to undo the fuel line on the drivers side rear to have enough room to get the cover off and back on?
Thanks Steve

I guess I'll see when I change them out, but boy does it look tight, and Rob also suggests undoing the fuel line after relieving pressure of the fuel rail.

Rob is usually correct.
And you should relieve your own pressure in the bathroom before starting the job.

At my age I'll need to do that before during and after.

I just did this a few weeks ago on my car, resealed the breather covers and replaced the valve cover gaskets. It is tight and I did remover the fuel line. So far I have had no issues with leaks. My valve cover gaskets were not leaking but once I had the covers off i noticed that the rubber was hardening in some places on the gaskets, so I am glad i did both even though only the breathers were leaking. I also would advise that if you are resealing the breathers taking the entire valve cover off first insures that you do not drop any pieces of silicone into the engine. Its more work but also a safety margin. I spent an entire day removing cleaning and replacing the valve covers on the car, but I took my time and it seems that it was worth it. I personally prefer to take my time and (hopefully) not have to make the same repair twice.

Good Luck!
