Default Baked potato: long term reviews

Hi,

i have to change a leaking intercooler on my SLK32 soon.

I am thinking of insulating the new intercooler with a heat shield (aka "baked potato") but still not sure if it is worth it or not.

I wrote some articels here (see below) but it seems that a "baked potato" has its negative characteristics as well.

It would be nice if someone can report his long term reviews after years of experience. Would you do it again?

Thanks

Steven

In my labs, with 1200 deg C furnaces, it's always a challenge to reduce temps where you don't want heat, and I've found these 2 products impressive:

https://www.designengineering.com//c...r/reflect-gold

Gold-colored foil tape to reflect heat away from objects Max temp 450 C.
You apply this to surfaces that you wish to protect from infrared radiation.
The adhesive used is rated to 175 C. But I've never seen it release or come loose without extreme damage to the foil.

The fools you see on Youtube testing its rating with a gas torch are unable to understand basic physics principles.

https://www.designengineering.com//c...hesive-backing

1/16: 1.5 mm) thick, and more difficult to apply, it has a very high temp rating and I've not seen any degradation in 3+ years.

I used the gold wrap for my N/A intake tubes. See my signature.

I like that panel you put over the fan, looks very smart ! i just might steal that idea :-)

Thanks for the links , did the gold insulation lower the IAT much ?

Talking Re: Baked potato: long term reviews

I did a couple of layers of silver bubble wrap UNDER the RUDY / NEEDSWINGS intercooler, if seems stable and works with out trying to go tooo too crazy. Heat is from the valley under it and two layers JUST fits, so that is how i did mine, low tech easy and of benefit. WDY

Its all in here: Enjoy
