There are two valves going to the heater, one for the left and one for the right. These are under the hood on the passenger side and close to the black box with the RCM inside. These get jammed or fail, the rotary dials on the left and right of the AC panel operate these by varying the flow through the valves.
If the air conditioner works it will be these valves.

temp guage comes up to normal operating temp, but does seem to take much longer than my coupe---I was aware of the water valves on pass side, but after engine comes up to normal temp, valves are still cool to the touch---guess this could be the problem---thanks for the response. I have a running parts car--might take the valve from it---are the valves repairable??

They are repairable, there is a DIY article in the howtos.

Did you check and see if the coolant heater pump is working? Doesn't it run when you call for heat? Or, does it only run when you select 'rest' mode.

Thanks George... Its been a while since I delved into the HVAC system. Still trying to find a A/C head to troubleshoot but seems it isn't going to happen.

IF the pipes going to (and through) the valves do not get hot in 'rest' mode then your valves are either clogged, pipe or pipes are clogged, or the pump isn't running.

In several vehicles, I get some barb fittings, water hose quick disconnects and a ball valve and back flushed the heater core, with a water hose, to clean it out,
