2006 Hard Start Issue

I'm new to the forum, and have learned a lot here. We bought my 83 YO mother a 2006 Limited Convertible with 60K miles on it for Christmas last year. The car is really super clean and looks barely used. We've had several issues since we acquired it and have learned how to fix it here. Here's what we've done so far.
Top not working properly replaced all cylinders for the top, works like a champ.
Died in traffic: Fix changed both camshaft and crankshaft sensors. Problem resolved no codes. This scared the crap out of her, people are idiots and one guy bumped her car to tell her GO she was really freaked out by it. I wish I was there when it happened he'd have some major medical and mechanic bills!
Very hard to start, read on forum, key on and off 3 times fired right away after third cycle. We changed both the fuel pump and filter both were factory, still had factory style clamps on it.
We also did the RCM solder fix just to be sure. We found a suspicious solder joint.
New problem. After we changed the fuel filter and fuel pump it's hard to start now. Really weird... it backfires and when it does start the exhaust is pretty rich (black) Once running runs like a top. It seem to be intermittent. We checked the fuel pressure and it's holding right at 50 PSI. It feels like a timing issue. We replaced all the parts with high quality Bosch as recommended by the forum. I read where someone else described the same sort of issue and he thought it was bad crankshaft sensor wires that were old and brittle. Also when you go to crank it it just runs the starter non-stop. It won't stop turning the engine until you turn the key yourself. I turned it off not to burn something up. Is this a normal thing? On most cars once you release from crank position it just stops. I told my mom maybe we should get her a Camry Solera or something much more reliable. I got a very stern NO! She absolutely loves the car and its styling. Very classy in her words. As a good son I want her to be safe, but these little gremlins worry me. Any help would be appreciated.

before u try to start leave the key in the on position (try this a few times to make sure that is problem ) you may have a hose cut inside either the pump or filter blocking the fuel. next would be get the injectors cleaned. next i would send the rcm to tight1 let him repair it I know u said you soldered it but he checks the relays and buy another one for a spare.

I changed the pump and filter... belts and suspenders for my mom she's 83 I want it to be as reliable as possible, may not be the right car for her, but she loves it. I got those from Needs Wings so I know they are good parts, Yes I installed them correctly. We attached the code reader, no codes, no lights. We attached a fuel pressure gauge and left it overnight and it read 50PSI in the morning. The electronics we changed (2 sensors cam and crank are Bosch). I did see the other posts with regard to the RCM fella and that was my next go to. It really seems like a timing/spark issue to me, but I don't know these cars. Once it starts it runs great, hence the head scratching. AMX I'll try that next. the 3 time cycle deal we tried before we changed the pump and filter it would fire right away on the third try, no backfire issues. Now it starts when it wants too sometimes up to 4 tries. What's up with the engine continuing to turn over even after you release the key from the crank position? You have to shut it off manually to get it to stop. Never seen that, but these are essentially Mercedes so who knows.

Thank you AMX I'm up around Ormond Beach, 20 miles inland. It's a 5 hour ride up here from Miami, I have kin folk down there, we're Americans of Cuban descent. I'll give him a ring,
FloridaCrossfire2006; What you are describing when the starter engages and continues to turn the car over when you release the key from the "start" position is a normal Mercedes feature which is incorporated into the Crossfire. There is nothing wrong with that starting sequence. A good scan tool designed to get into the Mercedes diagnostic codes should help you find the fuel related issue. Most generic OBD scanners can not help you with that.

Mom's plain jane limited is fun to drive when it's working lol, I can imagine an SRT6 is a blast without any mods, let alone with some tweaks. It's a quirky little car, but I've always liked them. It's mom's ride until she's not able to drive anymore and then I'll take it back and start to play with it some.
I am in indalantic , that is next to melbourne beach where my daughter lives ,, when i bring the V8 crossfire up i try to go to Orlando speed world ,going to see my son in silver springs going up 95 to Ormand beach exit then 40 west to SS.,, yes give matt a call tell him where u r and he could stop by ,,he comes up this way a lot.
AMX you come right by my place! I'm right off 40, 4 miles back in the woods on 40 acres just before Barberville. Stop in some time for a cold one. We can talk all things cars and maybe solve some of the world's problems while we're at it lol! Beer always helps with that. I was reading an old post from 2016 by Gopang. He suffered with the exact same issues after doing everything I did. Turns out the new Bosch camshaft sensor he put in was defective! It's worth a try, easy to swap, so why not? He said it didn't throw a code because it was sending a signal, just the wrong pulse sequence hence everything was out of time. To me it seems like a timing issue on mine. A bad camshaft sensor world certainly do it. The last mechanic was at a loss and decided to bench test the sensors and found the problem after the poor guy tried to chase it down for 3 years! His symptoms are exactly like mine. I'll report back my results.

Sorry for the delay in getting back on the final fix for this issue, but it is now fixed! Bad camshaft sensor! Looking back at receipts of the purchased parts I realized the camshaft sensor I bought came out of Germany, but wasn't a Bosch. That company produces sensors for Mercedes, Audi, Volvo, and the list goes on. It was a pretty expensive sensor. This time I bought a Bosch just like the crankshaft sensor which was a Bosch, thank goodness it's kind of a pain to change. Anyway, easy fix 5 minute swap, car starts and runs like a champ. Mom is super happy to have her hot rod back lol. Heed the forum and only buy Bosch sensors!

Looking back at receipts of the purchased parts I realized the camshaft sensor I bought came out of Germany, but wasn't a Bosch. That company produces sensors for Mercedes, Audi, Volvo, and the list goes on. It was a pretty expensive sensor. This time I bought a Bosch just like the crankshaft sensor which was a Bosch, thank goodness it's kind of a pain to change. Anyway, easy fix 5 minute swap, car starts and runs like a champ. Mom is super happy to have her hot rod back lol. Heed the forum and only buy Bosch sensors!

I think you meant CRANKSHAFT not CAMSHAFT. No known problems with the camshaft sensor connector.
There were other people as well. I will look for James post, one was dead out of the box as well if I recall correctly.
Buy Bosch or walk home, your choice.
Sorry that is wrong, ask James1549 about the troubles he had until he put the Bosch cam shaft position sensor in.
