Default Leaking Oil Filter

Hi Folks; Just noticed a large oil leak when warming my car up. It turns out I have a leaking o ring seal on the top of the filter housing. Anybody have a mercedes part # for the o ring or the housing as it may be cracked. It appears the o ring has just stuck out a bit from the housing. Push it back and it won't stay. Thanks. Mercedes is no help locally on this one.

Go get a new oil filter, they have the O-rings in a little bag in the box. And WATCH IT when you put the new one on. In every instance I've seen, the O-ring leaked because it was improperly set - it goes not in the TOP grove of the carrier, but the next one down. Most filters have a little diagram in the box showing you where that top O-ring goes.

Thanks. I figured that's what I did. When I went to put it in the lower grove, I find it had been stretched. I did the oil service in the fall and did a new filter oil etc. Up to now I didn't notice the leak and it collected in the pan. I hoped I could just buy an o ring. I'll just order another filter. When it comes in, I'll go to Rubberline, get a matching o ring from them and then replace it. Thanks.

CROSSFIRE OIL FILTER CHANGE

Usually you will get 5 o-rings with a new filter.
4 of them go with the filter as shown here.
The 5th one is for the dipstick.

I always wondered where that 5th one went. Just getting in to my 4th year. Already ordered a new Mann fleece filter. Did all the "must do's on the car in the first year and only been enjoying it for the last 2 years. New set of Michelins in the spring. That should do it for a while!

I"m going to disagree with Z, I don't do that often, but this time I think I must.

From Benzworld:

The 4 red arrows indicate the o-rings everyone changes. The stem and the oil filter cap are detatchable but hard to reassemble. There is a valve located where the 2 parts detach (pink arrow) it has a o-ring on it (green arrow). That is the one you have left over.

Over the course of 12 years, 120,000 miles and three Roadsters, I've replaced that o-ring one time. That arrow looks violet to me, not pink.

I believe PIZZAGUY is correct. I was wondering where an 'O' ring was on the dipstick.
