Engine, Exhaust, Transmission and DifferentialPost questions here that have to do with the engine, cooling system, air intake, exhaust, Transmission and Differential
I have a limited that won't idle, surges and pops when trying to accelerate. I replaced the MAF, CPS and RCM. Is there an easy way to see if a CAT is plugged? Might it be the PCM or throttle body?
If your cat is plugged the O2 Sensors will be indicating an error. The O2 sensors measure the amount of fuel burned before and after the catalytic converter. If you don't have codes check downstream of the converter for plugged up issues. I assume you don't have any codes?
Thanks, actually it did have an 02 sensor code as well as the MAF.
Well that's start. If you had wrote down the codes before parts replacement, can you post those? And then any codes after parts replacement. A bad O2 sensor can mess with the car's performance by poorly metered fuel for the accelerator.
I appreciate the feedback. It had a P0141 02 Cir.1 Bank 1 and P0440 Evap and then a P0101 Maf Sensor. I haven't replaced the 02 sensor yet but it did have a loud backfire. Probably too rich?
OK, yeah replace the O2 sensor. A plugged cat has a strong sulfur smell (google search). It seems weird that you had multiple failures. While you are under the car, you might want to check each O2 sensor. They tend to get "rust welded) to the exhaust. Clear your codes and lets if the car starts behaving.
I had a CJ7 for 20 years that I installed a tuned port 350 in. Late in my ownership the cat plugged, it ran hot and had no power. No noise and no smell. New cat solved the problem.
I have no clue if this would work or not, just an idea:
Do you know anyone like a plumber that uses a drain scope?
You would have to open the exhaust before the muffler pipe, then send it in.
What would cause a crossfire to run too rich? It has a strong gas smell when it backfires? Possible intake valve?
Disconnect the EVAP solenoid valve line coming from the rear of the car, put a little vacuum on it and see if you get gasoline. It is located on the drivers side forward of the ESP/BAS module.
You should only get vapor from the EVAP canister from that line; If you get gasoline, there is your problem.
