wierd noise when accelerating
When I step on the gas, particularly in 3rd gear, I hear a rapid tick tick tick tick... It is very subtle but I am wondering if this is normal or if anyone else hears this noise. Please let me know.
Thanks,
Andy

Sounds suspiciously like valve train noise, but we need more information... Does the noise match the road speed or then engine RPMs? Do you hear it when you start the engine? How about throttle? Do you hear the sound more when you're mashing on the throttle or at neutral or hailing throttle? How is the engine performing?

It is only when i am in gear...revving in neutral does not cause the noise. It does not seem to cause any performance problems. I only use premium gasoline and the sound comes from the engine bay. I think an exhaust leak might be something I should check. What I think I might do is head to the chrysler dealer and see if I can take out another crossfire to compare engine sounds. I am probably over reacting to the noise, but I am just obsessed with my new car and I want to be sure everything is in perfect working order.
Thanks for the advice,
Andy

...Just had to deal with my own "tick" this past week - intermittent, noticed at lower speeds, engine not as smooth at lower RPMs - happened to look under the hood and lo-and-behold one of the spark-plug wires (right rear cylinder, trailing plug) had come loose and the "tick" was the firing of the coil into air... Repositioned the wire and voila - all problems solved!

Hello, new to the forum. Just picked up my '05 SRT6 Yesterday. It has 10,000 miles on it and it does the same thing. No noise when idling or revving, but when accelerating under load I hear the ticking noise. Almost sounds like lugging or resonance in the exhaust. Very smooth and quiet when not under load. Any info?
Welcome to the forum cgocifer I see you live in Manchester.
I will be flying in there on Aug 10 to visit some friends in Kingston. It's a nice area to drive with all the smooth wooded winding roads. Last year we took a motorcycle ride up into Maine and back down through Vermont from Canada. Enjoy your new Crossfire !!!

I actually have the same exact thing happen to me. I've also had a couple of people comment on it but, I can't figure out for the life of me what it is.
