£400 road tax in the U.K. for us.
Looks like we will be paying £400 a year in road tax from next year.
It's gone up to £300 today and will go up to £400 next year.
That will probably reduce the value of the Crossfire even more in the U.K.
I'm so pissed off I can't believe they've MORE THAN DOUBLED THE ROAD TAX.
It wouldn't be as bad if they actually used the money to fix the roads but the roads are in such a bad condition.
I live in Edinburgh and the roads are knackered and there are speed humps everywhere.
The Crossfire had to get two new ball joints last year less than two years old with only 9,000 miles on it.
Norrie.

That is what I thought, but read the Times website in more detail and it states that the new rise will only apply to cars in the G band, i.e. ones registered after March last year...I think...someone correct me if I'm wrong here
, the article states:
'In his Budget last year the Chancellor created a new top band G of vehicle excise duty for new cars with emissions over 225 grams per kilometre. At £210 a year this was £20 higher than the next band. Those in the band — labeled the Chelsea Tractors — include BMW X5s and Range Rovers. At present there are 225,000 of them.
Mr Brown made plain that the new band was not retrospective and did not apply to 4x4s and other heavily emitting cars bought before last April. They were put into Band F and will remain there.
The Treasury has maintained that the road tax system is structured to allow all drivers the option of choosing a more environmentally friendly vehicle in a lower tax band.'

Yeah I think your right.
Few. (Wipes sweat off brow).
Still if your Crossfire was registered after March 2006 you will pay big.
I bet the value of them will drop big time.

Yeah I know what you mean. The way it was going today, I was under the impression the Crossfire would be included in the heavily hit cars. Nobody was making it clear which cars were included. I was going mad, worrying that I might have to sell my car, then that nobody would want to buy it etc etc...
What gets me is I don't do many miles a year, around 8k, yet I will pay more tax than a rep who spends all day on the roads. Am I wrong, I thought road tax was for repairing roads? I still have 4 wheels like everyone else, I pay more fuel tax per mile than people with more fuel efficient cars.
I understand everyone wants a 'greener Britain', but I don't think that is the right way!!
Anyway rant over...sorry, but I like many others have been worried about this all day!!

Come over to Canada, my tag/tax disk is currently $78 (about 40 Quid), on the down side gas (petrol) has shot up to .99 cents a litre (44 pence). We I emigrated in 77, I think the road tax was 35 pounds, over her it was about $20 bucks. Insurance for me is about $1,200 a year, (520 quid), that with no claims and no points on my license. Lots of open roads here, not like the M6 or M1, blue skies and fresh air blowing through your hair, go for it lads emigrate to Canada!!!
I recently had to get some more car tax (end of March) and was dreading the bill. When it came to it, though, I felt pleasantly surprised - although with hindsight, I shouldn't have.
With Brown's recent exploits, I expected to pay big bucks for that little round piece of paper in the windscreen. However (and here was my surprise) I was JUST inside the bracket . . . BY FOUR DAYS!!!
I registered my Crossfire on 19 Mar '06 . . . 4 days before the cut off date. I don't know exactly how much I've saved but £112 for 6 months sure sounds better than it could have done!
As for the money that it raised by road tax being spent wisely . . . I think I'd better avoid that particular soap box just now . . . I don't want to be accused of overusing my "rant" mode.
For full info on the new costs (and to "buy online" if you want/need to), look here: http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring...le/DG_10012524
The Crossfire is a "TC48" vehicle (which means petrol car) and if registered before 23 Mar '06 it is in Band F. After that date, it's Band G. Current costs are as follows:
Band F 12 Months = £205.00 6 Months = £112.75
Band G 12 Months = £300.00 6 Months = £165.00
I don't have the future costings to hand, but my thinking is to go for 6 months this time, then get the 12 months just before it goes up again (if, indeed, it does go up). Hopefully, that should save a few pennies.
Anyway, hope this info is of some use to you! Happy motoring . . .
Regards,
PP

Perhaps OZ would be a better move? Weather is nice, plenty of room, and I only pay $700 AUD (probably 250 pounds or so) for insurance. Fuels seems expensive though, $1.20 AUD a litre (40 p?) but compared to you it's not.
I collect my '04 crossfire on fri 4th may, just joined this club, read opening lines re £400 tax and panic or what for a while until read further into your messages mm ! Don't scare me like that ha !
Seems a good club, tried to join a uk club @ first, but seems there are none now.
Take Care.

Well I have just sold a Ferrari and bought a XF.... Imagine my surprise to find out the road tax was way more than a Ferrari !
Yet another massive **** - up by said leadership ! I realize there is always a cut-off in every rule. That said, how can they justify my sept XF cost nearly £100 a year more than a march model !
Ho hum... seems we have so much going on for the uk:
Crappy salaries (as a measure of disposable income)
High taxes
High house prices
High price fuel
High price everything... yardy yardy yar...
But on the plus side...
We have a monach !
Oh well... Canada here I come...

Make it Alberta bound then! Oil sands booming, lots of job openings, no sales tax, open roads and Sunny skies. Downside house prices through the roof, and limited availability for purchase and rental, but if you own a house in the UK the entry level of $400,000 cad won't be a problem.

Hello everyone!
I've just traded my PT Cruiser for a '06 Roadster. I'll be collecting it on Friday.
Just learned it was registered on 29th March, missed the deadline by 6 days... C'est la Vie...
