Default Service Costs?

Due my first service in 1,000 miles. Can any Brit owners chip in with an idea of service costs?

Also, the front brakes are "grinding" and pulling a bit, as I come to a stop, so I think the front pads might need replaced (standard brakes on the Xf are rubbish!)

a) Anyone any idea what the pads will cost to replace at a dealer?
b) Is this acceptable wear for a 9,000 mile 54 plate? My car does not get driven hard (mostly motorway driving).

Cheers in advance.

I paid about £400 for my service at 12,700. The Mobil Oil is the expensive bit.

I also took my XF into the garage at 17000 miles as I was getting a grinding from the front brake. There wasn't a problem, just a 'hard' bit on the pad which wore away after another 100 miles or so. Weybridge Autos didn't charge me for looking at the brakes.

Let us know how you get on. My second service is due in 4,600 miles.

Sorry guys, forgot to update you on this.

Visited Murray Chrysler in Stirling for the 1st service. Total cost was £204. Car came back gleaming and running sweet. Mentioned the brake problem and they said the brakes were performing properly and had no sign of defect. I find this difficult to believe as they would've noticed the sound if they had actually tested it (it was there again as soon as drove out the space in the dealer), but the long and short of it is that it doesn't bother me enough to go without the car for another day and I think I'll just change the pads myself over the next couple of weeks.

Thanks to those of you who gave an idea of costs. I have to say my bill was much less than I expected.

I'm now due for my 20,000 mile service. Went to my local Ipswich dealer who quoted me a staggering £500 for the service and a cheeky £10 to come and pick it up. So now I have to drive down to a Chelmsford service centre which will cost me £370 for a service which is still expensive but isn't too far away.

What do they do to justify the high service costs?

bollox,
Thanks for your post, today I cancelled my service in Bristol.
I was due to have a B service on a 2 year old car with 9,000 miles at Bristol price £538, phoned Taunton "no idea", Exeter "we think that's a 20k service" £460, Bournemouth £415.
Booked in at Bournemouth then Yeovil phoned and can do it for £406.Going to Yeovil now.
I can't believe the different levels of customer services at each garage 2 out of 5 know how to treat a customer 1 rips you off and two p1ss you off.
My week has been full of sh*tty savings like this. Norwich Union renewal came through £470.86, 5 minutes on their website and back down to £318.99 and that's £23 cheaper than last year. House insurance was the same £309.98 renewal, go to TSB website £221.53. It's just worth that bit of time on the phone or computer.

Wow! £130 cheaper - BTW I was not very impressed by the Exeter dealer after being recovered there (another story). Hope you find something nice to do in Yeovil while the work is done.

Cheers.

Just had the 20,000 mile service done in Chelmsford as I mentioned. Came to £368 but ended up wasting £110 in the bookies in the Town Centre while waiting for the car so in the end I should of just had it done in Ipswich.

Also as I haven't been out and washed the car in 2 months I was hoping it would be cleaned but it wasn't which made the day even worse.

Well, you should have at least had the car washed!

I had my 2 year service last November (11,000 miles). They still stated it would classed as a "b" service & i spent about £350 notes...hmmpph!...But it was washed!

My car is going in 2 weeks today.
It has just under 10,000 miles on it but will be it's second service as the car was serviced just before I bought it at 9 months old.
The car is now 21 months old.
I spoke to the service manager who initially said it would be due a B service but when I mentioned the mileage he said an A service would be fine.
The only difference in parts between services is an air con filter.
The difference in labor is they strip and grease the brakes etc.
However I have just fitted Rotex pads front and will soon replace the rears I wasn't to bothered about this.
The difference in price £180 for an A service and £400 for a B service.
This will keep the car in warranty so happy days.
Mark I think you asked me about wind noise a while ago from the window.
When the car is in it is also getting a new drivers door seal.

Did I, must of been some time ago.

TBH I haven't noticed any wind noise for a while or maybe I've just blocked it out of my mind.

Just got my car back from Yeovil and I am very pleased with the level of service. They originally quoted me £406 but the service came in at £350.71. While it was in they also refitted hoses to the radiator as this was a recall issue on some cars, I was advised not to drive it until fixed so picked it up the next day. Car was washed and the inside had been valeted.
I have been waiting for my service book now since Nov 03, and finally a dealer who has sorted me one out with the stamp pages in the back.
If your in the area I would recommend this dealer. I travelled 60 miles to them and thought it was well worth the 3/4 hour drive.
