I haven't posted nothing on these forums for a while now but would like to hear how you motors are going.

I've had not major problems yet but I getting sick and tired of the bumpy ride. Thing is I can't tell if its just the terrible roads or the suspension has a problem.

I keep thinking about selling it but when you still get people turning their heads to get another look it makes it hard to find another car that I can afford which is so different.

I have done 21k with no problems love it all apart from the vague feel of the steering and the depreciation!
Top speed plenty (2:00 am long straight).
Chip and K&N's made a noticeable difference and the slotted rotors with red stuff pads help with the dust (not to mention stopping power)!
I have looked at changing to the SRT6 until quoted a trade in price; the SRT will probably drop even more!

Interested in the driver’s seat problem you had rob265, mine has developed a real bagginess in the bottom of the seat (I am 13 stone before you suggest lol).

i am 13 stone also, but not in my bum, its in my belly. i think that makes a difference. anyway 12 months ago there were alot of sagging seats a common fault. as far as i am aware no one had any problems getting them changed, but mine was only 2,000 miles at the time. so my advice go see your dealer.

I had to return mine early to DC because of moving to Perth. Best offer I got was about £13,500 for 18 months, 24,000 miles. I would keep it because you will get shafted on the resale value.

Am now trying to persuade local dealer to let me have their SRT-6.

I have had my Coupe for exactly a year now and absolutely love it! Just turned 11,000 miles and no problems. I've seen an indicated 145 (with more to come) on a trip across to Nurburgring which perversely also produced the best mpg of 33 I've seen. No complaints about the handling or braking either. I've run it at a couple of trackdays and the grip is amazing - more than a capable of staying with the 911's and Scubis. The brakes on most road cars, even performance orientated ones, are usually shot after 10 laps or so but this was not the case with the Crossfire - the pedal just got slightly softer, but there was no fade. Had to replace both front tyres after the last trackday as I was down to the canvas, and the rears will need changing soon. I opted of P Zero's as the excellent Michelins were unobtainable in time. I haven't really pushed these yet but they seem to tack the white lines more than the Michelins. That has been the only major expense and that's my fault not the car! Sure the steering could have more feel but you can still feel what's going on.
The best part is the reaction you get from people. I'm always being asked what it is or who makes it? Waiting in traffic it's always funny looking in the mirror watching the people in the car behind pointing and squinting to read the badge. The best one was a few months ago when I was asked by a security guy if it was one of the new Aston Martins!

Simon.

My Xfire is long gone, the value was dropping faster than the Lib Dem cabinet.
No major issues but steering was wooly and had the seat base replaced for the sagging and 2 x exhaust tips for corrosion, of and the speakers for rattling...

Now have a SLK350, faster and more fun...although not as unique.

Tempting although I'd have to combine the engines from both into one chassis.

Well as for Mr Clarkson, it seems even when you buy the same car as him you still get stick, truth is you buy a car because you want it not because of anyone else. For me I wanted some open top motoring again, but with the amount of motorway work I do needed a folding hard top. Now that's a limited choice!

Occasionally, just very occasionally, Clarkson makes a very good choice. I think the new SLK is an excellent car. Unfortunately for most of the UK public, it is a choice most of us can't afford. I hope you enjoy your new ride, LP.

Had my soft-top since May and already on 11,500 miles! Still also love walking up to it in any car park. Should really not have it cos can't really afford it, but as it's worth less than I owe I'm keeping it for now.
Got to get it out on the track though!

Hi Steve,

Sounds like you are in a similar position to me financially! Still, you forget about all of that as soon as you look at it.
If you are serious about getting out on the track I can let you know when I am going next - probably in the next couple of months. Cost is usually £80 to £120 (+fuel etc) for a full day. There were no takes when I posted a few months ago for Elvington. Have a go, you'll be surprised how fast these cars can actually be.

Cheers,
Simon.

Yeah I am - I'd love to do it! Only thing is it's a 5 hour journey for me... my brother wanted to do one too in his Golf GTI (where I'd simply HAVE to win ).

Post back when you're looking at going and I'll let you know!

Cheers,
Steve

Steve,

Bruntingthorpe is another venue I go to quite a bit as its on my doorstep and a fantastic high speed circuit with plenty of run off - I guess its only a couple of hours away for you. I'll see what's happening.

Hi all - just had (today) my first service (10,000 mile) at the Bounemouth dealer and I am still loving my roadster. The price (£201 GBP) and the level of service seemed very good.

Got the following small problems sorted today:
  • Adjusted tailgate - was hard to close (had to slam it), now good.
  • Re-fitted no.plates - they were not quite straight and really really annoying.
The following problems will be sorted free of charge when the parts arrive:
  • High level brake light is only partially illuminating - requires new part.
  • Water ingress to both headlights - requires parts (TSB.)
The dealer was unable to recreate the slight but annoying leak around the passenger window that occurs only when Jet washed but did check the seals and adjustments.

The dealer assured me that it is normal for the tail pipes to go rusty - don't believe this, will pursue this further when the car goes in for the other jobs.

The only real mishap I have had was a rear blow out while touring the west country in the summer. Puncture repair kit was useless (cost nearly £60 to replace) and recovery service was rubbish and oh so so annoying. The day went something like this:
09:00 Driving over Exmoor with disabled Father as passenger- handling goes bad + knocking, pull into Nation Park car park (lucky) and notice flat rear tyre.
09:10 Try the puncture repair kit - Just pi**es foam all over car park - notice tyre is off the rim.
09:15 Say very bad words due to a lack of mobile phone reception.
09:20 Chat up nice National Parks Lady to get use of office telephone.
09:25 Get though to insurance company that handles our free recovery. Explain the problem in detail.
09:40 Insurance firm rings back to ask if I am just being Lazy by not fitting the spare tyre myself - explain that the roadster has no spare tyre.
09:50 Recovery company ring me to ask if I am just being Lazy and not fitting the spare tire myself - explain that the roadster has no spare tyre.
10:10 Insurance firm rings back again to ask if I am not just being Lazy and fitting the spare tire myself - explain again that the roadster has no spare tyre.
10:30 Recovery company ring me to explain that they are going to recover me to the Chrysler dealer in Exeter (80 miles away) - I explain I have a disabled person with me and would much rather be taken to Bounemouth (only sixty miles further and very near home).
11:00 Insurance firm rings to inform me that I am only covered for recovery to the nearest Chrysler Dealer which is Exeter and that the dealer does not have the required tyre in stock, but they should have it in by lunch time tomorrow - I ask what am I supposed to do with a disabled elderly Gentleman once we get dropped off in the middle of an industrial estate in Exeter. They say they will provide a hire car. I ask "would it not be cheaper to just take me to bournemouth". They repeat that I am only covered for recovery to the nearest dealer.
12:30 Recovery low loader arrives -Roadster just does not look right on the back of a lorry.
14:30 Arrive at dealer in Exeter - started trying to sort out the hire car!
16:30 Got hire car at last, crappy Merc ML350 - hate it - rushed to tourist information to try to book accommodation for night.
16:50 Made it to tourist information - apparently they can not book accommodation for you after 16:00 - gave me a booklet of the local hotels.
17:00 Lots of phone calls to find hotel with a restaurant and disabled access - found one.
17:30 Check in hotel.
19:00 - 23:00 Had far to much to drink and a very nice meal and start to realize that this Hotel bill is going to be a doozy.

Next Day
09:00 - 12:00 Wallowed around the countryside in the ML while waiting for the tyre to arrive and try to ignore hangover.
12:00 Got roadster back and a nice £400 bill (new tyre + rim check).
12:30 realized this whole stressful experience had cost me nearly £700 - ouch.
18:00 Re-joined the RAC - got to be worth the money.
