Default HID Light Coverage

Just curious to see some pictures of other people's HID coverage. Maybe it's just my projectors but it seems as though my passenger side lamp shines too far down even after I adjust it to point the highest. The driver side lamp shines pretty far out but I've driven a few cars with HID's and the coverage seems to be a lot better.

I'm using a 6,000K kit which should light up a lot, and don't get me wrong, the light admittance is great in my driveway but seems to drop off quickly when the light needs to be dispersed on the street.

Anyway, I'm just curious to know how my headlights stack up to everyone else's.

Cool Re: HID Light Coverage

Your HID's should be directed down a bit under the mark for normal headlights, this way they do not shine directly into the eyes of on-coming drivers.

Make sure that the bulbs are in correctly. If they aren't you can't adjust them correctly. You shouldn't have to adjust them when you installed the HID's. That is if they were adjusted correctly with the bulbs that you replaced.

Well there's only really one way to put them in so I don't see how they could have been installed incorrectly, the bulbs are snuggly fit.

Well based off my pictures, does the beam look ok? I mean that's kind of what I was asking for in the thread because I understand the lights shouldn't be in others eyes but when I first turned them on at night tonight they seemed way off like the light was too concentrated in one area rather than evenly dispersed.

The way I see it from your pictures the bulbs aren't in correctly. Do a search this has been covered before.

i have a 6,500k kit and looking at that also they don't look like there in the bezel all the way. The question is, can you detach the bulb from the power and ballast cord or is it plug and play with the cord fused to the bulb? I bought a cheaper kit and the bulb was fused to the cord I ended up having to take the bumper off and work that way. I also had to fab up my own h7 clip and take a day or two of my time to get them to sit right. Assuming you have the right bulb and assuming your working with the headlight assembly still attached. You're trying to jam your hands in what little space they give you to fit the bulb. It looks like you have it in and your bringing down the clip and its holding it in there but it’s not as far in as it should be. The only reason I feel this way is when I turn mine on without adjusting anything there is no yellow hue coming out the sides and its just pure light right out of the projector. I'm not doubting that you can't put in a headlight and please don't take this the wrong way I'm just trying to help you troubleshoot the problem.

It's a McCulloch Plug and Play kit. I could try to fiddle with it but it's raining outside and the light coverage in my garage is junk so it's really hard to work in a small place with little light.

I understand it could not be in all the way, but that damn retainer clip sucks so much and I'd really hate to take off the bumper just for it, do both of them seem wrong or is it only the driver side. I feel that I get more light coming out of the driver side than the passenger side when I drove it.

I really can't mess with them now, but I'll take out the bulbs and install them again, but I can't see how they could go in any further btu you never know.

Thumbs up Update

Ok, so I figured out the problem. In the McCulloch kit's there are 2 wires (Red and Black) coming out from the bulb. Well on the driver's side (which is in correctly now) the wires are aligned vertically Red on bottom, Black on the top. While this was the case for the driver's side the passenger side had the Black on bottom, Red on the top. So, aschrager and jonny the bulbs weren't in correctly and I fixed the passenger side.

I have to wait a couple hours for night to come, but now I need to adjust them again, but hopefully they'll be ok now that they are in properly.

So for those of you who get the McCulloch kit for the car, be sure to check the alignment of the cables for the bulbs. They might all be the same with a little variance but make sure the Red is on top and the black is on the bottom to ensure the bulbs are properly fit.

Thumbs up Re: HID Light Coverage

If you look at the bulbs that you took out you will see that they are keyed and only fit in one way. Now that you have them in correctly you should be able to adjust them. Good luck.

Yeah I know they were keyed but I guess I really didn't look at the orientation of the cables in relation to the key. Either way, they should be fine now. 4 more hours until I can check.
