Seriously, though... I really do love my Crossfire. The fact that I might want to change a thing or two doesn't mean that I don't. Sometimes it's just fun to make something your own. Sometimes, things could be more functional for whatever it is that you personally utilize your vehicle for.

Me, I like to take spontaneous, long road trips. And I also drive my car in heavy traffic into a moderately large city many mornings. So a decent cupholder that can hold a large soda or a coffee without being in the way of my elbow when I am shifting is something that appeals to me. For those of you who have automatics or who rarely drink in the car for whatever reason, not such a big deal.

And the ribs... they just strike me as a branding thing. Kind of like that weird bar they've been plastering on the front of Chevy's for the past few years. Or the butt that is on the Magnum and the 300 and the Charger, etc. etc. It just seems contrived to me. But that's just me. Doesn't mean it isn't beautiful. Just that I think it'd be prettier without.

Thank you sooo much for setting me right. I'm taking my Crossfire BACK to the dealership and I'm going to tell them about this enlightening moment, and ask them to find whatever car it is that is just like a Crossfire except it has no lines on the hood and has a really kickas* cupholder. THAT will SO be the car for me. Man, I can't WAIT to see it!
NOW THAT'S THE PASSION WE LIKE TO SEE!!! LOL!!!

I agree about the cupholder. Just order a $30 storage bin.

As far as the ribs, the crossfire was the only one to have them till this year. If you filled them, your car would look like a mini-Pacifica. they are not a "branding thing." If anything is, it's the grill and the chrysler chrome wing above it.

Good point about the ribs. I hadn't thought of the potential Pacifica connection. I suppose there's just no escaping that car companies can't get enough of copying themselves.

I hesitate to say that I'd like to get a different grille too, lest someone else tell me I should have bought something else. The only one (the mesh that there's a link to somewhere on here) that I've seen though, doesn't really speak to me. I may have something fabricated sometime, if I come up with an idea that I think would look really nice and someone who can pull it off. But it's not like the car is hideous or anything, so I'd have to find some serious inspiration.

Thank you everyone for your interesting and thought provoking comments!

Not a big fan of the hood strakes either...definitely one of the top 3 things I'd change about the car...along with:
- a button that *really* turns the traction/stability control off
- steering with better feel/feedback

well, it's understandable for a company to make their cars have similar attributes to display their relationships (i.e. porsche, bmw), but today some are ridiculous. all the fords and dodges look alike. take the new dodge demon for example. it has the same face of a charger at a smaller proportion.

I'm curious as to why people whose signatures include lists of options/modifications to their Crossfires would then ask why somebody would buy a Crossfire and want to change it.

Nothing is perfect.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Maybe the answer lies in the degree of change they're talking about. I agree how could you have a list a mile long and call someone on the carpet for wanting to change their car. But if you take the time to read the lists in almost all cases its things that generally don't significantly change the appearance. I think the car is gorgeous and would never think of a body kit or some such thing. I'm too **** and am always thinking about if I keep it that would devalue it. But mats, brake pads, engine mods, stereo upgrades, windblockers and rear fascias don't effect the design or look at all. Debadging and rebadging no none Crossfire person would even notice. My wife never once said didn't it once say Crossfire back here? Changing from matte silver to chrome never affected the lines and design of the car. So it may just be a matter of degree of change people were talking about.

Question Re: Ribbed Hood

Here's my best take (poor photo-chop skillz) at what it would look like to have the strakes filled on my SRT6.

Is that what you were looking for? (click the picture)

MMZ_Timelord,
Nice Work!

Buggy4crossfires,
I understand and respect your "philosophy" regarding modifications.

I have a different approach: I find the basic lines of the Crossfire beautiful, but I believe that cluttering styling elements were added as it came to production and am planning to bring my car back closer to the original concept (simplify).

In my opinion the hood/wing strakes/ribs are at variance with the basic lines of the car; this is especially evident when looking at it from above.

I also believe that the "face" of the car was manipulated to showcase the Chrysler identity. I think this "face" is actually more compatible to the Chrysler minivan and the Sebring than to the Crossfire.

I emphasize: these are my opinions: I don't expect them to be popular. I enjoy many of the Crossfires that I see on the forum even when they are modified in ways that I would not consider for my car.

I have only had my car and been on the forum for 3 months, but am really impressed by the number of truly enthusiastic members/Crossfire owners there are.

Great point on who is really altering the car the one who alters from the production model or the one that modifies because they want to stick more to the concept. Never looked at it that way. On another note mentioned here once again re. the Mesh Grill, I think we would all agree that a grill we'd all go for has already been shown on the forum. https://www.crossfireforum.org/galle...5/limit/recent. I believe this was for a SEMA show a year or 2 ago. Possibly it was at the NY Intl. Auto, don't know for sure. Does anyone out there know? If it was at SEMA than we have to find out who was the aftermarket source for this gorgeous piece of work? Someone has already made a beauty. If they'd be willing to make a few dozen you may have your next group buy. Anyone have connections with the SEMA show? The pic is coming from my gallery having spotted it once and saving it for just such a conversation but the person whose gallery its in shows it in a larger format, much more detail. Anyone know the gallery? Let us know.

rhacker382,

Maybe we were getting too serious; you have definitely added "funniness" to the thread.

Thanks!

Go to a salvage yard and get a hood to experiment with then swap it out and see what kind of reaction you get. I think the strakes and ribs are actually there for structural stability for the large piece of sheet metal. Without some structural support, I'm guessing there would be significant warping in a short time. The only other option would be adding underside bracing and supports and that would add weight and perhaps wouldn't fit in the already crowded engine compartment.

Nice job and you know what, I kind of like it...I think this is why people shouldn't dismiss any new ideas so quickly.
Also formerNXMX5 great stab at the post ****** LMAO. I guess that what the ignore feature was designed for.

Personally I think the strakes are an integral part of the bold Crossfire styling. Here's the PS I did a while back to satisfy my curiosity.
