Just changed mine to led and no load resistor!

A lot of the newest bulbs have a load resistor or something similar built in. So they don't trigger the bulb out warning system. Mine are the older style without, so I used external load resistors for each bulb.

Just look for the ones that DO have it built in.

Hope that clears it up.

I would use either 30 or 32, but I have installed in 5+ different XFs and a few of the newer ones were a little different in the contact points.

In THIS thread, they are listed as 36mm... I'd stick with that measurement.

Of the many I have done, the 36 is the least common I have seen. It had been a year since I did a set and could not remember which ones, I referenced that thread and ordered 36mm for my new coupe, and they do not fit correctly between the contacts, causing shorts.

If you get the 30 or 32 and they are a touch too short, they will still work fine because of the size of the contacts, but with the 36, it is difficlut to get them seated without highly modifying the bracket.

Do what you would like, I am simply offering info.

My apologies Boiler, I've pulled one of mine and measured it. It is 39mm. I am looking at the bulb and it is this one from superlumination's festoon section

I think originally I tried a 36mm, but it came up short or loose in the plastic housing as the factory bulb is 37mm (1 15/32") from tip to tip. Where as the LED bulb I have is 39mm (1 17/32"). It does stretch out the plastic 'fingers' a bit, but is secure and works perfectly.

So, 36mm should work, but if other people have had a slightly different part and the plastic 'fingers' are closer than mine by 3mm or 4mm, then a 32mm would in fact be correct. (European part differences?)

Can you verify this with yours out and measure it and the holder?

No need for any apologies, I was simply trying to bring to light that some of them vary, but over the years of doing them, I never thought about what years they all were for any comparison basis (as I guess I should have).

I need to order new bulbs and I will have everything out of the car and can measure within the next week or two and verify I am not losing my mind

In the meantime, my gauge pod is coming your way, I figured you wouldn't mind applying your awesome new mod LOL (I am jealous)

I would not mind doing a gauge pod, but I don't think you can afford me.

Keep in mind, I STILL have yet to find proper LED bulbs for the two larger OEM bulbs. When that happens, that thread will get yet another update.

Have you tried superbrightLEDs.com ? I have used them for all my stuff over the years and the bulbs are high end and have a good warranty.

The selection is amazing as well...

I did look through their selection and believe I have found a set that could work. Another $30 into the experiment. LoL

I've probably spent over $100 on just LED bulbs so far. BUT, I WILL find the correct ones.

The last pair I got from superlumination are the correct size and work. They look great, but they were listed on the site as "purple" just like the UV bulbs they sell. Well, these are tri-colored LEDs that are adjusted to a more red shade of purple and do NOT match the UV bulbs I have. And the smaller UV bulbs are a bit muted in the purple and too blue. May be the overlay for the dash itself absorbing the UV. I'll find out when I get the true UV set from superbrightLEDs.com.

I hate to revive an old dead thread, but I wanted to mention I bought these 37mm bulbs for $4.50 shipped and they worked and fit perfectly. No bulb out light or anything.

This is what I recommend for each area:
Glove Box and License Plate lights: 36mm = 1-3/8" Long 4LED
Trunk: 44mm = 1-3/4" Long 9LED (I'm pretty sure the fetson 44mm Super High-Flux Leds dome bulb with the 2 LED's would work as well)
Dome Light: 194 Superstar Bulbs (I almost choose the 194 5LED Matrix Bulbs because i thought it would have better dispersion, but from the pictures it looked brighter.)
Where can I get the right sockets for the led bulbs for the dome in the interior? Do you purhcase them all together or as I am thinking of having them being purchased separetly? Can you provide me with an exact like to these bulbs and not the general site please?!
Thanks!

I think in all cases you use the original socket. No one here has changed a socket that I am aware of.

My 07 had the original bulbs as part of the socket. They looked like the regular bulbs but they are not. You will break the bulbs trying to pull them out of the holders. You have to use this socket to go to LED's. I got mine at Auto Zone but here is the link to O'reilly's. It's a "Dorman" part number 85835.
