Thumbs down Chipped windshield Opinion

So I have like a nickel size chip on my windshield in the middle of it.....Got it today and got some quotes today and the lowest one to fix it was 107.....while just replacing the whole deal is 228......I know there has to be a do it yourself kit out there at autozone or orileys part store......has anyone ever fixed a chip on their windshield before? How easy is it? Cause I really don't wanna spend 107 bucks on this when I am about to move and don't have that kind of cash....

If you have comprehensive coverage on your insurance policy, you can have the windshield replaced for free.
It won't have any effect on your premiums.

I just had a chip repaired about a month or 2 ago. The spouse of one of my wife's co-workers has a glass repair biz - charged me 50 bucks for about an hour & a half of labor - & it didn't look like something I personally would like to tackle.
He used a tiny drill to open the chip & then, using some kind of special polymer, carefully weeped the stuff through the chip. Then he set what was basically a black light over the now patched chip & waited for it to cure.
Time consuming & exacting work. Unless you know exactly where to look the chip is invisible.

Now, that being said, I suppose if you're willing to give it a shot go for it. Somewhere on the web there has to be a primer of sorts for this job.
Good luck!!

I did my own,, there is a windsheld chip repair kit for about $10.00 it has a stickie thing you put over the chip/crack/star crack rub it good you don't want any leake then you screw a seringe pump ,,put as much pressure as you can it will fill all the little cracks ,,,afterwords you can't see where the chip was, unless it was a hole not just cracked. jim

Agreed... most insurance companies will now pay for the chip repairs instead of having to replace the windshield... A nickle size chip is pretty dang big... if your insurance covers replacement w/o deductable, I would do that....
