I really don't know man.... The first thing that comes to mind are those fiber glass kid kit cars! Nevertheless, I did see a black BMW M6 with a carbon fiber hood and hatch, and it came together really well. The guy told me all he did was have a shop apply two coats of clear on top the UV carbon clear coat.

That would be my thought process too, just a few clear coats to seal it all in. I've seen a carbon fiber hood on a black e92 335i, looked good. That CF was dark enough that it wasn't a huge difference and you couldn't really tell from far away.

The best part about his was the weight savings from 47lb hood to 13lb hood....until the clearcoat got cracked when one of the Eurocharged girls took some pictures on the hood, eek.

I am really interested in the progress of this project. I think I would be just as interested in a fiberglass copy rather than a carbon fiber, but price will dictate. Thanks for the R & D.

Yeah, I'd be just as interested in fiberglass as carbon fiber, although from what I hear carbon fiber usually looks fine without painting on black cars, so I may prefer it that way. I mainly want a new hood design, so I'm definitely looking forward to some future pics ... sucks the whole company is going on vacation for a few weeks

I have not been on in nearly a year and a half, and no body has come up with a new hood for this car.
Now it looks as though it is finally going to happen, and there isn't even a drawing of what it might look like.
My car sits for 8 mos out of the year, but when I do get home long enough to take it out, I would like to have some thing different. Not being a fan of the Seabring hood gutters, any thing would be an approvement.
Fiberglass, cf, plastic, I don't care. Just some body make it happen befor I decide to give the frikkin car away and use it as a tax deduction.

Your right!

Well since business is so slow for them, I'm actually considering the idea of snatching my window surrounds off and getting a carbon set made if the price is right!!

I was calling like a mad man yesterday . I also sent a couple Emails. I should have a status update on the design effort by the end of this week. As of right now, I bet everything is still looking the way it did when every one departed for vacation.

Keep us posted on this as well. A true 3 piece CF set of surrounds would be killer....

Ok friends!!!!! I have good news and bad News

Good News!! The 1st Ever Crossfire Full Fiberglass hood is complete!
The plan is to have the ugly lines removed in the final design. They needed to make this fiberglass copy in order to manipulate the design to fit the requirements for the final carbon fiber hood design.

Bad News!!!!

I was told by the design team that it will be very hard to make a fully functional vent on the aftermarket hood design that will also meet the rain requirement that was set.

So, they basically said they can design vents that will appear to be fully functional to the eye, but are actually completely closed in order to keep the engine bay dry.

Please let me know what you all think about this design requirement. Below you will find the design concept that the team has for our final design. The white paper represents the vents that would appear to be fully functional to the eye. All the lines in the hood are in the work to be removed except for the mid line.

Thanks

Med

The cowl will not be vented!

It will be tappered and rounded. The only vent look will be where the white paper is located.

This is not the final design. The back of the hood will be closed off and rounded just like a hood that we have all seen on this forum before. All of the edges on the cowl will be rounded, tappered, and closed off. This is a design update. NOT the final design.

BTW

The carbon fiber hood will also weigh much less then the crossfire stock hood

Please read up on the design 1st, and get a clear understanding of the steps in the design process and where the concept is going. As far as the cowl design.. the final look will be rounded and based off a hood design that many have gave the thumbs up. I appreciate all feedback....

Keep it coming...

Thanks.

I have had no water problems, and the vents were to introduce a low pressure zone just behind the radiator to maximize the cooling / air flow. Rain for the most part especially when 'still' falls straight to the ground as I removed the lower plastic PITA shield for cooling reasons, long ago. Enjoy Woody
