The plastic is curved and made to fit under there so the flex of the part is not crucial/required for fitament but it is forgiving if the tape is a little bit buldging or if the holes were not drilled perfect etc. Just gives some play to make sure it looks right. I think to ensure a good fit the mould would almost have to be done while the part is installed on the bumper to make sure the curvature and fit is perfect. Basically use the bumper to create the flange if possible. Just a little bit of pressure or weight on the part by itself during molding could cause the curve to be off just enough to make it not fit perfect. I would love a CF set and could easily sell my plastic ones to pay for it afterwards but I have been burned a couple times at this point so I'm not as willing to jump in line anymore. If any of these parts start appearing and are quality though I would gladly jump on board for purchase.

BoilerUpXFire,
Or anyone else that has actually had a pair of these. Are they too flexible to use as a mold? Or is the shape solid and correct enough to use?

Edit: guess that will teach me to go on a smoke break in the middle of a post.. LOL

John.. thanks for jumping in. Philip and I had discussed how the plastic would flex to any variations like you mentioned, and the weep holes were brought up. So basically everyone needs to know don't expect an absolute perfection on the fit. My main concern would be it following the indent in the cover and the "leg" that goes down by the exhaust. If I run over someone they can complain about a small gap on the backside all they want.. LOL

Definitely usable but there is enough flex to be cautious of at the thinnest outside edge. The platic can be twisted/bent there without much force. Basically i would not have faith in the part to rebound back to the exact position to be perfect for moulding once it has been played with and mounted. As stated above I would actually attach it to the bumper or some solid template created from the bumper curvature to ensure its as close as possible. To JHMS point a couple millimeters is expected so not everyone is going to have the same fit, just comes down to getting as close to that 1-2mm variation as possible so the majority will not need to mess around with them to get the fit right.

I'm in if they could be painted to match and don't fit like socks on a rooster.

Im not trying to take FUBU's thread here but Myself and an old navy buddy were out under my car two weekends ago discussing this same thing. We were talking making molds and then forming off of those to produce CF parts. If someone could donate a set a diffuers, We could have them made in no time at all. This sort of job is childs play for us as we both have aviation structural backgrounds then he went a step further and got in with his local porsche racing group and repairs all of their carbon parts that get damaged while on the track. Its a dog eat dog world and I can get them out faster and in country. Pms are welcome.

I have OEMs on both cars. I can't see any reason you couldn't mold a set to fit. Flexible or not. I painted the coupes to match the car but roadsters are unpainted stock black. You would want a stock set. Am I kind of like Dave on this one. 250 might be unrealistic for carbon fiber. But good luck. If you were in US I would loan you the roadsters.

I'm still waiting for the big announcement of the $250 CF diffusers hitting the market.

You managed a $5 lip, are you waiting for someone else to make a listing mistake on eBay?

More involved here than your "smart" A$$ knows.
End of story..

Oh but do feel free to cry about how much you had invested and lost..

I'll just sit back and wait for your efforts...

Still waiting on 180's efforts since mine is worthless apparently.. I've got a vette to play with so email me when it's time.. So many websites and parts options I just can't decide....

Okay but in all honesty there are a few guys on the vette forum that play in carbon fiber.. I'm trying to toss a line in the water over there for here too..

I'm not so old I can't learn new tricks.. like mods on a vette and problems that go with them.. so stay right here and play safe.. Okay? I'll check you for a pulse regularly though so don't fret a whole bunch..
