Default Plasti dipped my kid's Escape today.

The plastic bumpers and side panels on my daughter's escape were faded and really made the Escape look dated. After four cans of plasti dip, she's very happy and the car looks much better.

Looks amazing,
Can I ask was it brushed or sprayed on? Also did you do it in situ or remove the parts. Many thanks in advance as wife's pick up would really benefit from a spruce up.

It took 4 cans of spray ($5.99 each at Lowes) and 3 hours to complete the job. I cleaned the parts and applied a 2 inch tape border for overspray. Parts were sprayed on the vehicle.

Nice, I did the same to Molly's SUV on the front bumper to hide some rock chips.

I am going to order several gallons of the sprayable kind and do my daily driver so I can stop buffing it once a month, if it looks like crap, I can peel it off

Actually turned out pretty good! Let us know if the touchless washes pull that stuff off, could ya? I've been hearing conflicting reports of "do it" and "don't do it because" about plasti-dip recently. Would help to have your input!

I am not sure if my input is as good an Anthony's, but I have had dip on wheel center caps and a front bumper of our DDs for quite a while. Each have been washed more than a few times with high pressure water and even in a bind, through the full touch car wash, so issues thus far.

They do tell you it will only last roughly 3 years, but I don't know anyone who has had it on that long.

I personally think it is more about how good of a job you do. If you leave an edge exposed and water can catch it, the likelihood of it peeling is significantly higher. If you prep with a good cleaner/degreaser and the surface is good, it will stick incredibly well...

That's reassuring, thanks!

Yeah, between your climate (basically desert, from what I could see, correct me if I am wrong) the sun, and the dark color of the dip I am surprised it lasted that long. It is still the cheapest way to drastically change the appearance of a car out there, that is why you see so many crappy looking dipped rides LOL

I just ordered a gallon of the sprayable kind to do 3 sets of wheels I have been wanting to change, I will let you know how the pre-thinned sprayable stuff works in a paint booth with a professional gun. If it works well, I may do matte white on my subie wagon

I totally agree! The conclustion of my dip experiment is... FAIL! Lol. The climate here is too rough for that stuff. Which is why I am going to get everything painted. Except the rims, I wan't to swap them out eventually so I may just re-coat them with dip until I can buy the rims I want. It looked great until it didn't lol.

I am going to use a straight gunmetal grey on the wheels, no clear just to see how it works. When I do the car, I think I am going to use matte white with a gallon of the silver metalizer and see how it looks

They have so many options it is unreal compared to even a year ago, and the prices are cheap as hell. I got a gallon, shipped for $70 . I don't think I would do it on the cross, I won't even do vinyl, everything on my car that is custom done is paint, but for my daily, since it is navy blue and I have to buff it all the time to avoid swirls, I am going to try it. I will definitely let you know how it turns out...

I think that'll turn out pretty good. It is pretty unreal on the prices and options. The cans I bought were 8.95 ea ordered online, and now Home Depot has them for like 6 something now. lol
