Hi everyone, I was just out washing my car and had time to check hood and enginebay regarding clearances. All I can say is, oboy, it is tight... We really need to think about the design. I have DCAI (and the oil filter can) and I cannot see how even the Waldig design would work.. I have started a thread to see if I can get a DCAI srt-6 over to their shop so they can measure clearances and what not. I have a SRT-6 but he does not have DCAIs...

Woody, runs a dual set up. But getting a drip tray under it might cause the clearance problem. I would email Woody and see if he has anymore info with his set up. No one would be more precise in measuring than he...

Thanks bud for helping me out! I think the waldig design is the way to go. But we will have a "firepower" pin in the middle of the vent. The slant we will try to do as long and deep as possible.

What if the the center section (parts with the slashes) of the hood were raised 1/2 inch, something gradual. This would provide additional clearance under the hood for the Waldig negative vents and add small cowl(s) at the windshield.

I like the OEM hood, so I'm in favor of something that enhances the OEM design that flows with the rest of the car, or not detract from the rest of the car.

So after having "checked" with eye measurements it seems like the waldig design + firepower + cowl can be a way forward. I have no clue how it will look but I did just a sketch on what parts that could be raised a bit. I do not want it to stand out too much so will have to work on this. awaiting some measurements from waldig. But if he ran DCAIs with his design, at least that is a plus and we can build on his measurements.

Playing about.

So I think this could work. Would like to make the raise / cowls to be as subtle as possible. See sketch below with the red indicating the ridges.

haha well I want to find a design for everyone, foremost myself. My main worry is to go away from the OEM look and make the car look ridiculous. Weightloss + downforce + air ventilation and heatloss is 2nd focus for me
Just let me know if you want to be back on.

It doesn't have to scream "different".. but I've got a stock looking hood already.. LOL. I'll see where final design plays out.

Soo I was just out looking at Albino.. Raising the hood will look awful.
Here are some stuff that I thought may look good.

I like the extreme but can we not curve the front vents and keep the spine. I think the spine really helps the look.

I will look at it tomorrow. It may look strange to divide the vent though with a spine. Photo contra irl is a big dif. Go out, look at your car and visualise. Remember clearance. Start with Waldig design then see what angles, spone or no spine, cowl etc can work... Need to think about this some more. We all want a good cf hood

See below of first post of thread for the latest designs.

I have done two types of the hood. Also did two versions of each, highlighting the lines in one and shading them out a bit on the other.

First is without the spine in the waldig vent. Second one is with.

I have added a little cowl vent (is that the correct term?) at the back that will be approx ½ inch engraved.

So what do you guys say? I personally think it looks great and the function I guess will be quite good. Vents in front can let heat out and produce some downforce. The one in the back will let cool air in or hot air out. I am a designer and no aero dynamics specialist so do not really know what happens. But they sure look good.

Lastest designs:

1 version is darker just to enhance the lines / edges / height

without the spine in the vent

Yes, yeah, do one of those lol.

All this talk about clearance and I havent even popped my hood to look. I may be out just because of the fact that my motor is 4" longer. I may have to contact andy's to come by and test fit or something.

My CF hood came with a CF front Chrysler wing with space in the middle for an emblem.. does the stock wing/emblem have tabs on the back for mounting or is it just held on by double sided tape? something to think about..

also, I still like the firepower design, a cowl or scoop in the middle is a little excessive though. If you're going to deviate and put vents farther up the hood, might I suggest taking a page from our SLK brethren?

Note the "matching" 3 strakes..
