I found a $13 gasket that was made for a VW but fits well on our Crossfires and is easy to install without having to remove the tailight and antenna base. First, use painters tape to mask area around base. Then use an exacto knife to cut away old gasket. Some of the gasket will be under base so that will need to be removed too. Once you have it removed use some adhesive cleaner to clean. Apply some silicone between fender and antenna and a bead on bottom of gasket. Fix gasket to narrower side and stretch to front making sure the edge goes between fender and base. Press down on gasket. Clean any silicone that squeezes out. Tape front of gasket to allow sealant to harden with front of gasket tight against fender. Allow to dry for 24 hours. Clean any excess silicone. (Step not done, use black trim conditioner on the base plastic).
That looks like a good option. Did you splice the connector from the old antenna on to the new lead?
NO, I re-used the OEM body with the OEM wiring.
I just replaced the mast and the gasket with the parts from the Chinese one.
( I gave one to Max, I still have 2 of 'em left )
You have an eye for a bargoon. Better buy whatever you need now, I hear there will be a big levy on imported goods soon.
Make that antenna in Dertroit and it will be $75 each.
We can all get stuff like this from China cheaper than the stamps to send it back to China.
Thank you. My gasket was rotting away and I didn't know how to fix it. I ordered the antenna from the post above, waited, waited, waited then received the antenna. The OEM antenna was pretty easy to access. I have a roadster so I opened the back lid and accessed the underside from there. 22mm socket to remove the nut. The wiring has a connector about 8" in from the base. Disconnected the wires, pulled the base out, cleaned up the hole area, put the new gasket on, reassembled and done. Probably 15 minutes total. The gasket is almost an exact fit. Thank you again for this tip.
Thanks George, I am going to give this one a try. I do not need a new antenna, only the gasket, but Kristi's Roadster does need a new antenna, so I'll use the antenna on her Roadster.
