Default Convertible Top Wear

my 2006 15k mile Roadster convertible top is showing wear dead center of the top in the last panel before the drop off for window panel. The top operation is less than 100 times but the wear which looks like abrasion has me concerned. I cant see any reason for the wear point. Anyone else have or know about this issue.

I have the same problem on my 2007 roadster, a narrow wear mark about 3" long 12" forward from the top of the rear window and almost dead center from the sides of the car. I think it's caused from the locking mechanism on the underneath side of the rear deck that covers the top after it lowered. I'm going to put white chalk on the locking hook and see if it shows up on my top when I put it up. If that's it, i'll file and polish the edges of the hook and hope that takes care of the problem.

Great idea, let me know if chalk shows. I'll check the edges of my hook. My biggest concern is with a 2006 with15,000miles and really way less than a 100 top drops, its just a matter of time before i have a hole in the top. looking online for new top replacement.

Dcskmail, I wonder if a plastic strip of door edge guard would be another alternative as long as it cleared all operation.

Sounds like a good option to me and a lot less work than filing and polish as long as it doesn't interfere with locking.

The best bet for a new top is the BAS top :
Crossfire | Chrysler Hoods | Cabriolet Hoods

Do you leave your top up or down while in storage? I was just thinking maybe prolonged periods of the top being folded. My 2005 doesn't have that but the top is kept up unless enjoying the ride.

I have the top up almost always but I just bought the car 12/17 I'm sure the wear mark was there when I bought it but didn't notice till later.
this isn't in an area that folds it runs in line with the car front to back and is about 3" long and 1/4" wide and it is 12" forward from the top of the rear window and just about dead center left to right.

Here’s an ancient post on this issue:

I recall some folks put a piece of electrical tape on the inside of the top where the abrasion was occurring and that solved the problem.

Zeracer, I have my top up 90% of the time to prevent the side panel fold marking, and with 15K it just hasn't been cycled that much. The wear showed up in last year or two became very noticeable.
Dcskmail, today I cycled the top, stopping frequently to see if the latch bars were touching the cloth surface, but couldn't see any point where anything contacted the top at the area of the wear line. What I did see was a unusual fold right at the point where the wear line is on the top. The fold was running front to back not side to side that the top normally folds along.
Harbor, thanks for the link, looks like many have experienced the Top wear line. I didn't see any reference to the electrical tape fix, but I wonder if tape would provide enough stiffness in the cloth to prevent the unusual fold that I saw today and may be the source of the wear line. Mine also is about 3" long. I have both 2" wide black electrical tape and duct tape. Time for a couple tests to see if it stops the fold at that point. At least the tape i have is black.
Hey guys thanks!, for the feedback. this Forum always is a great source of info and ideas.
