Default Rubber below rear convertible top wear

Any ideas to coat the rubber seal the back of the convertible top sits on?

Mine has friction wear and looks a little dingy with the top down

Yes, Meguiar's Gold Class Trim Detailer is what I use. It will make it look new again and last a good while.

Take the rubber off?

Would it not leak?

It appears to be nothing more than some extra thick tape. I don't know why but, I always thought it was there to keep the top from scuffing the paint. Does anyone know what the real purpose of that strip is? Phillies05, it does look good without it.

If in fact it is just a glued on rubber strip and I take it off, won't the top wear the paint?

I've seen others say that they had no wear after one year removed.

7 yrs removed and have to keep an eye on it now. I buffed that area this year. But still no paint wear. It does not leak. The clear coat is very thick on these cars...so for me...I like it removed...

What is that? Looks like some sort of digital camera distortion?

Silicone grease is perfect for lubricating and preserving rubber parts. I use it on the window and door seals on all of my cars. I also put it on that black tape strip the convertible top sits on.

On my Avalanche I started with Mothers back to black.. looked better but after a couple weeks needed another coat.. Picked up some Mcquires... looks better going on.. will have to see how long it last.

And just ran across this.. anyone used it before? Avalanche has a lot of plastic to try and keep black.. LOL.

Yep, I've used Forever Black and it's good stuff. From my experience, the Meguiars Gold last a little longer.

Over the years I've tried everything on the market that is supposed to keep this tape/fabric "as new". Out of desperation one day while treating my fabric top I applied 303 aerospace protectant. Wow - this is the best product for this application if you decide to not remove the tape and keep your XF stock ~ Tony

Mine had a bad place in the tape when I got it...finally took it off one day and was going to replace it. It looked great without and 7 yrs later...I would never go back to tape. I was going to attach a strip of weather stripping to the underside of the top itself...but it wasn't necessary. I have did the 1200 mi run to the dragon and back in the rain...without any problems...each to their own...

I NEED one of these products. After reading the posts, I think I will go with Meguiar's Gold. I read that the Back to Black may/will run in a rainstorm. Awhile back an AZ poster sweared by Mother's Back to Black.

To confound my decision, I recall reading before the Dragon that alaxfire and maybe Pizzaguy use yet something else. Basically I am looking for something easy to apply and effective.

Figured I'd go to town on the Avalanche last weekend.. They have the 3 plastic panels that make a bed cover and they were grey almost a white look. Figured I'd see about using up the Back to Black since I picked up the Meguiar's to try.. Have to admit I was very impressed when I had finished.. I really didn't think they could look that good as bad as they initially looked!
