Cool Protective flim on headlights

Anyone have experience/knowledge on the use of protective film being used on headlights?
I've been told by one source that the headlights are too hot and by another that it is no problem. I'd like to prevent damage to an expensive part. While I'm typing, I'd like to note how valuable this Forum is to a new owner like myself. Thanks.

Another source...

3M Headlight Protectors (Precut)
Groit's Garage (800) 345-5789
• P/N: 10232
• $73.98
http://www.griotsgarage.com/search.j...=17&search.y=5

I highly recommend them. There is not enough heat generated by the head/fog lights to be a factor (afterall, the head light lens are themselves made of plastic).
