purchased an r/c electric heli today...
wow... what a difference from gas & electric r/c planes... talk about minuet inputs...
this will take a few days to master heli pattern flying.

Looks like fun Andrew! I gave RC helis a go after years of slope soarer gliders back; I still have the wreckage of an MFA Sport 500 in the loft.
These electric jobs may tempt me back again though, I like the idea of none of the messy fuels, starters, glow plug packs etc.
Just the thing for Mr Clean.

Looks cool. I fly/flew u-control since I was a kid. I said "fly" because after 14 years, I pulled the .049 *** engines out, got fuel, battery and my old planes and much to my surprise, all of the glow plugs were usable and after a few spurts, took off and ran like a top. Of course my skill was not that easily renewed and I now have several engines that are mounted on slightly damaged planes! It was a blast though.
When I was a kid I wanted an R/C plane but couldn't afford one. Now decades later I still can't.
However, I'm thinking that an R/C helo plus a cat will add up to some mighty cheap entertainment...

Oh Man !
That is too cool.
I gotta have one of those 'lil RC copters.
I really NEED another money/time sucking hobby!!!
I used to build beautiful little airplane models but never really had anything to do with them once they were finished. They just collected dust until they fell apart or were accidentally broken. Now the idea of model planes and helicopters which actually FLY and really CRASH...Hmmm...I think I'm HOOKED !

Poked around the hobbyzone website. Some of the planes/helos cost almost as much as the real ones, are almost as big, and the video of the Corsair implies that it needs to be flown from an actual airport. Think I'll stick with paper airplanes.
i have done some modifying to my helicopter...
i changed bodies and added some led lights to the front and flashing lights to the boom... it looks real cool flying at dusk/night outside.
and i also added some aluminum components... for improved flying characteristics...
this things a blast.

Sweet...
I started out with a couple of Tiger trainer planes, then moved to a helicopter...now I fly a scale model A-10 with Kress Jets!
Good to see a fellow aviator on the site!

Darn it Andrew, that is just too cool...
Been cruising the RC Heli sites all week now and I'll probably order something in the next couple of days. I've already got one of those super tiny two channel jobs on order just to play with. Thought I'd start with something simple/cheap to fly until I either crash it or the cat swats it out of the air. The E Flite choppers seem to be pretty popular with plenty of parts support so I may end up with one like you're flying.
I've also been looking at this one...

The metal drive parts and airframe seem to be a good idea. I expect to break a lot of blades but I want a chopper that will withstand the occasional "hard landing" (crash).
What kind of R/C controller are you using? I see some of the newer ones are 2.4 G.Hz now. Is that the best way to go?

Thanks for the pictures.
How long does the battery pack last before you need to charge or replace it? Do you get any kind of warning when the battery pack is getting low? In case the pack goes dead while you're up several hundred feet, can the helo auto-rotate to a safe landing? Care to test that last question?
Poked around the website but couldn't find anything on battery pack life.
It sure looks fun and I'm beginning to go hmmm...

when the battery starts to lose its charge you slowly begin to lose attitude and power (over time)... this allows for more than enough time to return from the skies.
