Trust me, I'm a Network Administrator & have been repairing computers for darn near 22 years, from IBM 3/X to AS400's to PC's plus a bunch of other stuff you guys have probably never heard of.

ooofff AS400, no good.

and in this case one step backwards equals two steps forward, not the other way around... I tried Vista for a bit then sent my XPS back to XP Pro land where it could be free and happy.

The only hardware issue would be if you are running a 64-bit processor which XP Pro is not designed for... In that case you would have to run Vista. If I remember correctly you did say you were running a 64-bit processor which would make a retro back to XP not good. I would just advise you to slimline Vista, remove any applications you don't need (i.e. that Vista sidebar)

No, AS/400 good!
Sorry, Zahanma, but IBM systems don't break.
Years ago (in a universe far, far away) we used to LOVE signing IBM stuff to maintenance agreements simply because it was easy money. Their PC's may suck, some of their printers aren't much better but their systems are rock solid, hardware-wise. Excellent documentation, great upper level support, they are tough to beat.

My case....I upgraded a home desktop (self built) to Vista. Ran great....except for many applications. bought a new HP Slimline with Vista preloaded just to have something native t compare. So then my office Dell laptop was crushed by Delta Airlines and Dell shipped me a replacement...with Vista Ultimate preloaded. I offered to keep Visa and be a test case for corporate IT application changes....no dice. They say they won't consider leaving XP for another 2 years....or more. Don't you love it when IT folk blow smoke...and get away with it?
