The land line is $22 a month no matter how much I use it. The cell is $64 a month as long as I do not use it. On top of that every one expects me to be avalable on the Cell 24 7
Got rid of my land line two years ago. The only calls we ever got were from solicitors anyway. We have used our cell phones with no problems since. I have Verizon FIOS TV and Computer and it had no affect on the service of either.

When it rings it as most always a unwanted call so I see no point in continuing to have it in use.
Our cell phones are all on a family plan with enough minutes to support our needs.
I would love to do away with it, but the wife needs it for her non-profit group. So me and the daughters just don't answer it nine times out of ten.
Is 'have had it removed' the same as 'never had one in the first place'
I'm 24 and single. I am not really settled down, so I don't need more than one phone. All through college and now 15months after I have had only the use of my cell phone (and always have my old one in the house in case i break it). So I have never really seen a need for a landline and mobile line.
However, if you want a phone you keep in your house all the time. You should look into Verizon's new hub. Now this is obviously more convenient for people who have verizon already. You can add it on for $35 a month. Unlimited US and Canada calling and unlimited texts...
Check it out. It's pretty cool if you ask me.

I live outside of the metro area, so for the cost of doing away with my land line and slow computer modem speeds, I picked up Roadrunner !!! Best decision in my case since the cost of having an out in the country land line just didn't justify itself.
Actually I got rid of the cell phone.
I got tired of paying a bill so people could call me at inconvenient times with stupid questions.
Also, DSL is way cheaper than Charter cable for high speed internet in my area.

Besides, since I'm a network dude by trade I get a stipend from the company for maintaining a broadband connection at home (half the monthly cost) so I can get bugged on the weekends & still get into the network from home. So, just like owning a cell phone, I can never 'get away' from work.
On the other hand, having a super-speedy dedicated internet connection (5Mb) via Charter is one thing, placing my trust in them for a VOIP phone line is a whole 'nother matter! Thank you, no......

I don't like the internet phone because if your power goes out it is dead.
I always keep one non-cordless phone hooked up just in case.

So I called to have the home phone cut off and just retain my high speed DSL internet connection.
The lady was very polite and told me that my current DSL internet was $30 a month but without a land line it would become $40 a month.
She then told me that if I kept the home phone active without and extras like caller ID, three way calling, call waiting and long distance
it would be $15.71 a month for local calls only and she could reduce my same high speed DSL internet to half ($15) of what I currently pay.
So bottom line is I keep the home phone and the same high speed internet for a total of $30.71 a month.
I still have 911 capability with a local land line and the same internet for what I was paying for just the internet previously.
Without caller ID ....well I guess I'll be hanging up the phone a lot more often instead of not answering it at all...LOL

My mom is 73 and refuses to have a cell phone but we put one in her car just for this purpose. My guess is if she needed help she'll probably still walk to get it!?!? Stubborn woman (and everyone wonders where I get it from?)
Anyway we tried...
Stay safe...
Respectfully,
Paul (MisterTaz)
I'm pretty sure the 911 thing works still...but only on phones that are plugged in electrically. I think they send an 'emergency' signal out through the line and let the calls through.
