Default Highway Etiquette

I have been stumped today about what you call people that follow you on the highway for miles out.....not tailgating, but almost like you are the pace car or the first to get caught speeding.....you might go for 30miles...then they pass you for 30miles then they slow down and get behind you again...this goes on for awhile. I admit that I have done this when taking long hwy trips but I thought there was a name we call these hwy drivers or manuevers??

Two possibilities:

They are comfortable pacing off of you.

They are using you for cop bait.

I have both done this and had it done to me. I usually crusie at just enough above the limit to get a scowl from the officer, but not enough to wake him all the way up. It's also a way to break up the tedium of a long road trip. (I do a 12-14 hour run down south once or twice a year) One fellow followed me for about four hours and when our routes finally diverged, he pulled up and waved.

A name for this breed? Dunno. Maybe we should come up with one

Funny, just did this today with a Porshe Carrera SUV - for an hour or so - up I75 at 120 MPH. Simple interstate comaraderie far as I know. The Crossfire really hits its stroke at 4000 RPM.

I apologize about the swearing...and the curse words in the title...Didn't realize it would show up like that...crap. I'll take it down if someone wants me to.

Would it be wrong for me to make a comment on the Asian driver complaining about bad driving?

Well, my pickup has no cruise control, so on long trips I pace a car doing what speed I want to do. If I don't, I end up all over the "speed spectrum"... this way, my mind does an automatic "keep the distance constant" thing and it's less tedious. I even do this in the company van. But I dont' ever PASS the person, not usually, as that defeats the purpose.
