How they do things in Alabama
My Way News - Ala. woman lets daughter ride in box on top of van
ALBERTVILLE, Ala. (AP) - An Alabama woman has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child after police say she let her daughter ride in a cardboard box on top of their van. Albertville Police spokesman Sgt. Jamie Smith said the 37-year-old woman was arrested Sunday after police received a call about a minivan on a state highway with a child riding on top.
Smith said the woman told police the box was too big to go inside the van, and that her daughter was inside the box to hold it down.
Smith said the mother told officers it was safe because she had the box secured to the van with a clothes hanger.
The 13-year-old daughter wasn't harmed and was turned over to a relative. A jail worker said the mother was out on bond Monday.
I can make up a LOT of goofy stuff to post here, but I could not have dreamed this up no matter WHAT drug I took!

I guess the big question here is this. Had the young girl had the misfortune to fall off the car while dutifully holding the box to it's roof, would they have successfully sued the maker of the car for not providing a better designed platform or the box fabricator for not making it safe to do so. I mean after all, it is possible to design a roof rack to hold such an item and for sure, even i could design a box which could provide a safe landing at highway speeds.
Perhaps the king of lying lawyers John Edwards has a chance at a new carreer. I can hear him now, "imagine, if you will, that you are the helpless 13 year old, trapped in the shabbily constructed cardboard box, about to fall from this faultily designed minivan, constucted by uncaring bean counters, with only profit in mind. How would you feel?"
Worked on cereble palsy birth defects. Made him millions.
