Default for the sake of accuracy

Regardless of where you fall on the political spectrum or who you support, it's best to draw and base conclusions on as many facts as possible.

Equating Heinz's foreign holdings with some kind of hypocracy on Kerry's part re outsourcing jobs off shore is not really a precise comparison, and has just enough of a thread of partial truth to get folks worked up.

Truth is, Kerry's wife owns stock in the company. Neither of them sit on the board, or in ANY way have any more influence over the direction and business planning of the company than any other stock holder, which pretty much begins and ends with whatever votes come up at the annual stockholders' meetings.

Kerry's wife NEVER had anything to do with running the company, and never will. She inherited her stock when her husband died, and to be honest HE had very little, if anything, to do with the company at the end of his life besides owning lots of stock and being the descendent of its founder.

Now, you MAY say "Ok, but if he was TRULY interested in the outsourcing issue, he'd get his wife to divest herself of her stock and reinvest it elsewhere."

Granted, there may be something to that...but to those of you who feel really strongly about this issue, take a look at your own 401K plans, and be sure you do the same to YOUR holdings...

Take it from someone who knows, stop replying to this thread. No one will change anyone else's mind so what is the point? People will just get hurt and probably steemed. I know this is the "Off Topic" board, but this is just getting silly. You've all made your point. Time to move on.

*sigh* well I decided to check back after a few weeks and the thread is still smoldering on. Cheebs is right, no one will change anyone's mind on a thread like this (I learned this the hard way :? ) Lets just vote for who we want and get back to the Crossfire. Everyone has their "values" or lack thereof and its obvious that this isn't the place to change anyone's mind on anything political, religous, or controversial. Shall we get back to the car, everyone?

vote for me instead i want no taxes and smaller gov. I will use an import tax instead like they did for over a century and it worked good. there was no federal income tax until the 1900's the funded the gov by duties and tariffs only. i would create many jobs doing this. to avoid the duties and tariffs you would have to build it here.

Kerry reminds me of the rich, large headed kid that sat in front of me in grade school. He knew the answers to the questions but had no solutions to any problems.

I' ll stay with George. I wish he would make Dick Chainey chief of staff and John McCain V.P.

Please help me. I am not that good with math.

When President Bush tells us 32,000 new jobs were created in July and the labor force grew by about 150,000 in the month are more or less people unemployed ? If so how many more or less?

The fact that 150,000 jobs were required to absorb the growth in the work force was not mentioned by Mr. Bush. If 50 million voters listened to him take credit for the 32,000 new jobs and only 1% considered the omission of the required 150,000 jobs how many voters were fooled?

What does it mean when Karen Hughs states duing the RNC two thirds of KNOWN AlQuada operatives have been eliminated thanks to President Bush. Let's say there are 50,000 AlQuada operatives and only 60 of them are KNOWN operatives. How many have been eliminated?

If 50 million voters listened to Karen Hughs and only 1% considered President Bushes policies only eliminated "KNOWN" AlQuada operatives how many voters were fooled?

I'm at home eating my dinner in Iraq with my wife and three children. Next door a house is bombed as there are suspected insurgents inside. The explosion kills my wife and two children. How many times did something like this have to happen to kill the 15,000 civilians since the start of the liberation?

So far we have found no WMD's. If we find 4 times as many in 2005 how many will we find?

If Iraq ends up costing us a half a trillion dollars ($500,000,000,000.00) as many predict how much will it cost each of the one hundred million (100,000,000) American households?

A family makes $40,000 per year. A tragic accident requires a family member to be hospitalized for 6 months The total medical costs is $240,000. Insurance would have covered all but $5,000 of the costs but the bread winner is now one of 5 million no longer covered by medical insurance since the last election. He/She can pay $5,000 per year of the $240,000 owed and is 40 years old. If there is no interest on the debt how old will the bread winner be when the loan is repaid?

Neil Bush, our president's brother, was directly involved in Savings and Loan scandal costing tax payers about 160 billion dollars. If we spend 500 billion dollars in Iraq which Bush family member helped spent more of the tax payers dollars? By how much?

Since 2000, the median household income has declined consistently in real terms, down $971, $502, and $63 in 2001, 2002, and 2003, respectively, for a cumulative loss of $1,535a 3.4% dropover these years. How many more years will it take for a household with an annual income of $40,000 to be making nothing?

Please help me. These questions have me stumped.

Just be thankful you don't have Blair. Problem we have over here is the lack of a credible opposition.

dad of 4, work force is a number that refers to people (who meet current specifications) currently seeking employment, not a number representing anything regarding actual jobs. if 35 thousand people found employment out of a work force of 150 thousand, that is a very poor employment percentage. The unemployment rate does not count anyone "outside" of the workforce (those of able age who have seeked employment within the last 3 months). im no math expert, but 35 out of 150= pretty crappy= time for a change ; ). BTW all you people who talk about kerry not making decisions, im sure referring to some of his difference in opinions, mostly perpetuated by Bush, just do a search on Kerry and look at how many decisive policies he has already spelled out. About the war thing, at least the guy knows he mad a mistake and is willing to admit it. Also, the Bush campaign is very specific in saying "the world is a safer place" now that they have captured Sadam. Maybe true, because now Iran and Kuwaiit don't have to worry about Sadam, but we are at war with two countries losing more soldiers every day. So, the world may be safer, but is America?

x'ed

Safety is an illusion. Until recently we faced indiscrimate bombing of the civilian population and the killing of our solders in Northern Ireland from the PIRA. Staff working with animal research organisations are sent letter bombs and death threats. Gay bars have been blown up with nail bombs.

There are so many extreme groups who have different beliefs and priorities that make our world an inherently dangerous place.

The problem with the enemy not being a nation, is that it is difficult to win any battle or war. If you want to beat extreme behaviour then unfortunately you have to be as bad as them.

If I had been in charge, I would have beheaded one female prisoner, each time a hostage was murdered and then started on the others. If we want our society to become safe, then our governments have to be strong.

X'ed,

I'm not advocating persecution or unnecessary force, but at the moment the world (US, Europe, Russia, Asia) is being subjected to an organised terror campaign, led by Islamic Militants. These guys will not stop until they either get their way or are dead. They have the mindset of a Terminator.

All I am saying is that we must do what is necessary to stop them, whatever that takes. Negotiating will not work and if they perceive we are weak they will continue.

Once it is over, there is no need to continue to persecute them.

I think it was the Bible that used 'eye for an eye', and I think it was you who dropped the bombs on Japan to save lives.
