Thumbs up "Rising: Rebuilding Ground Zero"

With the 10th anniversary of 9/11 upon us there will be many well made and meaningful documentries produced and aired on TV in the coming weeks. The Discovery Channel, Dreamworks and KPITV will air a two year project entitled "Rising: Rebuilding Ground Zero" it will be a six part documentry starting tonight at 8pm on the Discovery Channel. The first five one hour segments will air from 8/25/11 - 9/1/11. On 9/1/11 the sixth one hour segment will air which will be a "Memorial" episode. My Wife and I have the honor of being featured in this segment, and will be discussing our youngest Daughter Eileen Flecha and her fiance Ivan R. Perez. They both worked on the 94th and 95th floors of Tower Two for Fiduciary Trust International/Franklin Templeton and were both lost on 9/11. We were greatly honored that Steven Spielberg and the Discovery Channel production team wanted thier story told.

On 9/11 I spent about 36 hours at Ground Zero that day when the towers fell, in and out Tower Two prior to it's collapse trying to reach my Daughter. The responders were there carrying out people and returning back in to do there job. Many of them sacrificed their lives so that others may live, I just don't get it.
I'm very sorry for your loss and will be watching the documentary series for sure.
With so many lives lost that day you should be honored to have been selected to tell their story.

Thanks for sharing this info with us all here as well

Gary

Using the DVR.... I have programmed "Rising: Rebuilding Ground Zero" to record and just watched one episode tonight.
It isn't clear when each episode will air right now but it doesn't appear that they are all back to back each night for a week.

There is a lot of progress underway at ground zero.
Seems once the decision of how to rebuild at ground zero was hashed out, construction has begun and the effort currently is to build one floor a week in the first new tower and to reach 1000 feet by 9/11/11 (10 year anniversary) When complete in 2013 it will stand 1776 feet tall.

The site will have a museum and two huge waterfalls into the 7 story holes in the exact spot where the original towers stood.
It will have a few other tall structures and a lot of trees throughout the campus.

It doesn't seem that nearly 10 years have already passed.

Cool Re: "Rising: Rebuilding Ground Zero"

I am sorry that I have not posted any responses, but we were hit very hard here in Richmond by Irene. Just got our power restored, cell service is spotty and cable/internet will not be restored anytime soon. It seems that I will miss most of the documentry. Tonight they will be airing 3 episodes back to back on the Discovery Channel, and then there will be a marathon on Sunday or Sunday on the Science Channel. They will also rebroadcast the entire documentty on both the Discovery and Science Channels on 9/11/11. If I get anymore information, it will be posted here...hopefully cell service will continue.

CrossfireLTD, I'm so sorry for the loss of your daughter Eileen and her intended husband Ivan on 9/11/2001. I remember this day like it was yesterday, so it's hard to believe it has been 10 years.

I'm glad this memorial will pay tribute to all the innocent lives lost on that tragic day. My birthday is 9/11, so this day has a special significance to me as well. I will remember your family on 9/11. Again, I'm sorry for your loss.

I just watched 3 more episodes and I have to tell you I am amazed with the amount of detail and effort that has gone into this 16 acre sight.
This is one of the most beautiful memorial places I have ever seen.
It's truly architectural excellence in every way.

The location where each tower stood has been transformed into deep voids in the ground lined with black granite with a waterfall running down the walls deep down inside from the top pools and is surrounded by beautiful bronze border with the names of nearly 3000 people who lost their lives on 9/11.

It is surrounded by hundreds of living trees to create a beautiful 7 acres and will be surrounded by 5 newly designed towers of different heights all under construction at this time. This 10 year anniversary has been a target date for the first unveiling and it appears they have met the deadline and it will be opened finally after 10 years behind a fence.

So much more to tell but all I can say is watch the series if you can't go to NY and see this for yourself.
The entire site is to be completed by 2014.

If you have not been able to watch these shows in this series they will all air back to back on 9/11 on the discovery channel.
