Default The official Crossfireforum.org "Scotch/Whiskey Aficionado" thread

So, with many members being a drunk snob like I am, it has me thinking -- I know of several Whisky/Scotch drinkers on this forum. Some members, I've even had the pleasure of sharing a drink with.

This thread is dedicated to sharing reviews, new Scotch/Whiskey products, and even random "Scotch/Whiskey of the day" postings if you wish. Share your faves, your least faves, and ones to simply avoid at all costs.

I'll start off with a Scotch I had recently... 12 year old GlenLivet. Smooth draw, nice flavor that is bold but not harsh. A great full-bodied drink, notes of leather. $44 a bottle (retail)...

Glenlevit is a great scotch and readily available at the better bars. Of the Glens I prefer Glenfiddich 18 year old if you can find it. About $44.00 a bottle as well. the 12 year old is also fine at about $38.00 a fifth. A bit smokier than the Glenlevit but very smooth and a nice after bite.

Both are excellent single malts.

A great thread idea Nick. Good choice.

I have brought a bottle to every Dragon I have attended. But Nick, you always slurped on some kinda jungle juice. Glad to see you're growing up a little bit.

GlenLivet is a good scotch....best 12 year old I ever had. My favorite is a Bowmore "Sherry cask" Islay 15 year old.....bloody awesome.

That said, I have a bottle of Glenlivet 12 in the cabinet. I'm stepping up to an 18 next time... they're a bit more fully developed.

I'll have to look for this next time I'm in one of our larger liquor stores.

And I've been called a "drunk slob" before, but I may take offence at being labeled a "drunk snob".

Highland Park 15 year and, how could this be ignored:

The Macallan 18 year.

I saw the Macallan 18 last night and started to pick it up, but wasn't sure about the label and am pretty new to this game.

Mr. Miata should like this:

I'm pretty cheap too. I'm from Wisconsin (Motto: "Save your money: Buy Cheap Booze") and when I'm not trying to impress anyone, I buy Famous Grouse (blend). They do a nice job with that. It's a blend (I did not know this) of: Highland Park, Macallan and others.

Smooth, Not to boggy. Nice. Cheap.

mix it 50/50 with Tisdale Pinot Noir wine ( $3.48 for 750ml ) and it'll go a lot further.

#1: I'll tie the blindfold
#2: Agreed. Never ruin good (or any, unless it needs it) scotch with ice. Just a splash of good water.

The only water in my scotch is what may have condensed onthe chilled glass.

Whisky,,,,Neat,,,,,no water,,,,, no ice,,,,,, no stemware

I know it is a blend but Pinch is a tolerable budget scotch. Very smoky, strong notes, dark amber color.
Lovely aroma. and for those who must,,,it will tolerate ice. Not ot be confused with Pinch Dimple which is very good and very pricey at about $50.00

Speaking of lower class scotch, this sad news just in........
Thousands of litres of whisky 'accidentally' flushed from plant

Thousands of litres of whisky were flushed into the public sewage system at a bottling plant.
The incident occurred at the Chivas Brothers facility in West Dunbartonshire on Tuesday.
Scotch whisky and gin manufacture Chivas, which is owned by Pernod Ricard, said the flushing of the spirit at the Kilmalid site in Dumbarton's Stirling Road was as "accident".
Scottish Water is monitoring the output after workers detected the whisky in the sewage system after the incident.
Chivas said the spirit was "bulk whisky" which would have been used for blending to make some of its brands, such as Ballantine’s and Chivas Regal.
A spokeswoman for the firm said: "We are currently investigating an accidental loss on February 26 at our Dumbarton site when some spirit was released to the local waste water treatment plant operated by Scottish Water.
"We have informed Scottish Water and all other local authorities."
The drinks company also stated that none of the whisky had entered into the River Leven or any other local water sources.
A Scottish Water spokesman said: "Staff at our waste water treatment works were already aware of a problem and were working to identify the source, when contacted by Chivas Brothers.
"We are continuing to closely monitor our Dumbarton Waste Water Treatment Works to ensure treatment has not been compromised

I don't drink much, but I have a bottle of Ambassador 25 Scotch whiskey that I brought home in 1962. I gave the other four as gifts. Now, I have four bottles of Chivas 12 given to me as gifts. I prefer a good dark beer or a glass of Chianti. I have a fully equipped bar I don't use. I use the shops/garages . 3 of them.
