Default Oil Prices Dropping - Russia vs. Saudis

Filled up our 2012 Fiesta this morning for $1.689/gallon at Sam's Club in Greenville, SC. Sam's Club selling Unleaded Super for $2.039/gallon. Probably will take the Crossfire over after lunch & fill it up. Haven't seen gas prices this low in several years. Almost like the "good old days" when gas wars occurred every so often. Price of a gallon of Unleaded Regular was $1.769 at Sam's Club yesterday. Dropped $0.08/gallon since then. Enjoy it while we can!

Fuel prices here have been higher than everybody but CA for a year or better. We are still at $2.80. I have no idea why.

Personally, I’d rather pay the higher price for gasoline. I believe it would have been much cheaper for us in the long run... retirement accounts and personal investments took a huge hit this week when the oil war began. The coronavirus pandemic has taken its toll on our accounts, too. Oil producers filing for bankruptcy and oil workers filing for unemployment will also come at a huge cost to us. Oh well, it is what it is.

Huh??? You really must be kidding us right? OK, under what mindset does paying a higher price for anything a good thing? Your wanting higher prices (really, think about it given your reasoning), makes no sense. I'd rather pay a lower price. Do you know how the price of the gas you pay for here in the US gets inflated from the wells where it comes from?

The price drop an also be attributed to the Covid-19 virus as well, when people travel less the price drops.

No, I’m not kidding. The drop in oil prices alone (not including the effects of the coronavirus) had a huge negative impact on the stock markets. Many of us lost the equivalent of a new car and a lifetime supply of premium gasoline on Monday alone. I agree with you, I don’t like paying any more than I have to for anything, but instability in the markets have a huge negative impact on our 401k and IRA investments. With regards to jobs, one friend in the oil business took a pay cut this week just to keep her job. Others at her company were reduced to part-time and loss of benefits, while others were laid off. I know of others in the engineering field who have had refinery design and construction projects canceled, which will likely lead to layoffs there, as well. Layoffs in turn lead to an increase in unemployment claims, which we the taxpayer pay for. Yes, it would have been a LOT cheaper for me to pay an extra 25 cents for a gallon of gas.

I guess all those warnings in the fine print about the stock market being a speculative venture, was ignored on the promise of the salesman trying to make his/her bucks. IMHO too many ppl live way beyond their means confusing needs with wants. This too shall pass! If ppl sell (which many say to ride it out) then take the losses and move on. Other words of wisdom (typically also ignored) suggest ppl have a 3 month minimum ready savings that would handle all the extravagansive wants (spelled wrong intentionally) accumulated in the quest for keeping up with the Jones's (sorry to all the Jones's out there). Just take care of #1, and let the other #1's take care of themselves. Then when stuff like this comes along all can pay the lower price of fuel with a smile. BTW, where to go in about another month or so (depending on how far CoVid19 gets), I don't think there will be many places to go besides camping deep in the woods (with its own risks from those who will take from those who have).

Good luck to all the members including loved ones, if we all do our parts (everyone) that 'peak' vs 'curve' (current news-speak) will work by staying ahead of the demand of just about everything needed for this type of thing, and the impact will be minimum. The alternative is not what anyone needs OR wants.

You are right in so many ways here... too many people live well beyond their means confusing wants with needs and have not built up an emergency fund. Fortunately for my wife and I, we’ve had successful careers and are now retired. Our savings are well diversified so we should be able to easily ride this storm out. Unfortunately, too many people did not learn a thing from the last recession.

It looks like you and I are in that 60+ age group of being more susceptible to the coronavirus. Good luck to you and your family, as well as everyone in our Crossfire family!

Yes, you are right on point in every instance. It is good 'smarts' to manage most of your own, the monies you have earned, so the impact would be minimal. Also, yes, the Mrs and I are both 65 and I have additional risk factors. That said, we have been staying home and severely limiting our exposure to others. This will get worse because of the habits of many to panic and/or dismiss this as bogus. When they realize (either by infection, loved ones getting sick, or mass stores and businesses closing), the ole crapola will hit the fan. We aren't relying on others to protect us so the steps we took should 'kick' our can down the road. I believe many more are sick (or have been), since the best info to date says ppl are contagious before symptoms show. Good luck and stay safe ALL! Pay attention to the CDC website (and their links to every state for those in the USA)

Gas prices seemed to have leveled off around here now. Cheapest I've seen was $1.459.gal (Regular) and $1.739/gal (Premium) at both Costco & Sam's Club..

Northwest Arkansas: Lowest I am seeing is $1.69 regular and $2.05 premium.

Seems to still be dropping but I cant say for sure.

Meanwhile, stores have everything except TP, paper towel and hand sanitizer. Food shortages have stopped, cause everyone panic-bought and are stocked up!

I own a small business and work in the oil and gas field. Not actual oil fields but you get it. This has killed mine and many other businesses like mine. I live in Oklahoma and most of the people I know that work in oil and gas are jobless or have pretty much let go of everybody that works for them. Most of us are contracted workers. Our job losses started way before this though because of a lot of the business that is done with China. Trying times right now.
Gas here is as low as 1.15$.

Nor did I but we use litres up here. So we pay 4.5 times as much for gas at those prices.
We do have some benefits up here.

I paid 79.9 in CDN pesos per liter for 91 octane (no ethanol) at Costco yesterday.. Least expensive fill-up in the 12.5 years I've owned my Crossfires!
