John Whelchel (mickey5469) of Gainesville, Georgia slipped into eternity at 1am this morning after a bit of a battle with health issues. He was in his 80's and leaves behind Ella and family.
John was a part of this community when I joined in 2009 and made MANY Dragon events. This was a kind, gentle and honorable man - one of few men I have met, that I wished I was more like than I am.
Would some of you who can share memories of him please do so? Mine is that he looked after me when I was down with my heart issue back in 2014. He drove me to, I think, one of my doctor appointments. He and Ella and the rest of the north Georgia Crossfire family often met for dinner when I lived in Cumming from 2011-18.
I knew John very well from all the times he and Ella attended the Dragon.
He was a kind genuine man that all of us looked forward to seeing each time we attended.
My condolences go out to Ella and all the many friends and family.
This is another loss in our Crossfire community to add to the many who we have lost over the years.
RIP John. I do so hope Ella will continue with our events. She was always working the crowd, saying hello and wishing the best for everyone; A refection of John!
Memorial event is Saturday, June 17th, beginning at 1pm EDST at the Whispering Angels Youth Ranch.
This is John's Daughter's horse ranch that ministers to children with issues.
There will be special acknowledgement and dedicated parking area for the Crossfire friends and cars that can attend.
Arrive early,there is going to be a crowd.
A catered BBQ is planned along with refreshments to be provided.

John passed away recently and Ella is holding a Memorial Event in Celebration of John's Life on Saturday, JUne 17th beginning at 1"00 pm. Hundreds are expected for this event and special Crossfire only parking is provided.
Location: Whispering Angels Youth Ranch in Gainesville, GA. Event is planned to be streamed LIVE on Zoom. Many Crossfires from the metro Atlanta Areas plan to caravan to the event. If you can't attend and want to watch the event here's a Zoom link to do so.

For the locals that are going to John’s celebration of Life, I thought it would be great to caravan to Whispering Angels. I figured the Regions Bank on Mundy Mill would be an easy in/out parking lot.
