Default Red dash

I have a 2004 alabaster coupe with the black and cedar interior. Had I bought this car new it would probably be just the same. After living with it for awhile I have come to dislike the red lower dash, steering wheel and console. Buying new parts from Chrysler is very expensive, and I have not found much in the way of wrecked Crossfires to pick apart. Any ideas? paint? Cover with leather? Don't look down? Cover it with a white sheet and call it the Sen. Robert Byrd. "Kleagle edition"?

Thanks,
Zorro

You do have to make sure that the surface is fully prepped before even priming it, but it will work. I would not recommend this for the steering wheel rim though. Get yourself a nice leather Wheelskins cover for that.

I may just go this route. I found a dealer ad for a new black steering wheel for around $375. I will probably go for that anyway. I wonder how many of us Miata guys have Crossfires now?

Do you still have your Miata? I dumped mine in favor of the Crossfire.

Sold mine after seven years. Still miss it sometimes. Not when I am packing for a trip though. Great car, just too small.

All the guys at miata.net probably think we're crazy for doing so, but who cares? The Miata is a fantastic little car but the Crossfire is just a better fit for what I really wanted in a weekend toy.

Any Body shop supply company will have HIGH quality Leather, Carpet, Vinyl, and cloth dies. They usually have them to match all interior colors. These professional dyes come in spray cans so they are easy to use. I would stay away from the cheap-o Duplicolor ones. You get what you pay for. The professional ones usually run $15-$20 a can. 2-3 cans should be more than enough to do the dash and Air Bag cover. I've used these products several times. I even changed the ENTIRE interior of my RX-7 from black to Blue with this stuff. Seats, Dash, Doors, Plastic, everything. Lasted for years... The good stuff chemically bonds with the polymers in the material being dyed, and can't flake or chip off. That's what makes it a dye and not just a paint. I believe the Duplicolor is just paint with a flew agent. It will eventually flake off and crack.

Thanks for the tip. I had not thought of a supply store. I will look into it.

I have a Body Shop & Auto Detailing supply company right done the road from me. I don't know if your Black is the same as my black, as I would call mine Gray. If I had a sample of what color you want, I could get the right stuff for you... I'd have to stop in and find out the current prices...

Thanks NeverEnough but the next step for me is going to be tires. I will have to think exactly what I want to do to the interior. A couple of days ago someone posted a picture of a custom leather interior that made me rethink my priorities (do I really need to eat) and I may price something like that out.

Wish we could meet up and swap interiors! I bought my car used and I have been dying for a red interior.

I like my seats and door panels. It's just the dash, steering wheel and consul that bug me. Now if I could find a white and black interior I might drive cross country to swap.
