Default slk 320 interior

hey guys. i did a search and couldnt find anything on it so i made a new thread, but i own a slk 32 as well as a srt-6 and i much prefer the "slide thing" where our cup holder is located on the slk. it looks like the whole piece pops right out. has anyone done this instead of buying that little cubby that replaces the cup holder. in my opinion if it could be done this would look much better after it was painted to match the interior

Would you mind trying to switch the MB Cupholder into the Crossfire? I'll be your best friend! I've been wondering about this swap for a while. I was sitting in an SLK a while back when I got the idea myself... I just don't want to spend the coin on the MB assembly just find out it won't work...

Hate to sound rude etc, but why worry about cupholders? I've made ti a personal rule to not have any drinks in my car, ever.

This was after my sister had coffee in her jetta's cupholder(the same 'slide thing' design you are talking about in the slk320) and she hit a bump and her entire center console was covered in coffee.

Very bad planning to have cupholders in sporty coupes, just my opinion

But to help you out, I know exactly what you are talking about and it seems like you can either use the one from your slk (wouldn't do that because you'd have a gaping hole) or goto a junkyard where an slk320 is wrecked, and take the whole center console and just use what you need to make the cupholder fit into your crossfire. they are designed the same way pretty much so you can take the console parts and mix and match for the most part.

going off of the design, I'd say it's called a 'push to open sliding cupholder'

Speaking of stuff in the way, I notice where they put the electric mirror control, when I'm shifting (6 speed model) sometimes I hit it and move my mirror on accident, I was considering either moving it to the console next to the shifter beneath the cig. lighter, or replacing the switch type to one with a center neutral switch so you can move it all you want and nothing happens until you click either left or right (I am thinking of stealing one from a bimmer in the junkyard, I always liked their switches

As a side note, did you JUSt start your slk or something because to me, it looks like you have way to many lights on the dash telling you to check things! I hope it's just that you started it and took the picture right away

haha well i REALLY want that cupholder im just not sure it will work. but the slide thing i was talking about is right behind the mirror and convertible button you can kind of see it in that picture. but if i attempt to do this switch i will definetly be doing the cupholder at the same time

Tom, I think they are making reference to the SLK's sliding cup holder that comes out of the dash board above (or just below) the two center vents.
Somebody mentioned before, that it's nice, but if you hit some rough road, it can spill out all over the radio, and anything else below it.

It's the compartment just to the right of the hand brake... see above pic.
Hope that helps

If you do that you'll need a new center consol and center consol storage lid and fabricate the silver trim around the shift to fit properly... unless you're going to put the slider storage cover under our silver painted area where our cup holder is?

oh and btw guys i have stared at both my cars to death trying to figure out if we can install the slk cup holders in the xf and i dont think it can be done because if you look carefully the slks vents right under it dont go up into the top of the dash but on the xf our vents kind of blend into the dash.

We bought and I installed a new cup holder because base units come equiped with the storage tray. My wife used it once with a paper cup (Chick Filet) in which it promptly punched a hole in it. She's never has mention about using it again. I use it occasionally but with plastic bottles or cans, but I find it in inconvient to reach and it often rides in my lap or hand.
IMO, get the storage bin, forget the sliding unit idea, (you might have to change the center console), and apply the KISS method. Offer me a $150 plus and I'll remove cup holder and send it to you.

heh well yah i have totally forgot about the cupholder the xf comes with stock. but i dont want something in my car i cant use. so i thought about getting the slk 32 dash and putting it in the xf but its going to be too much work, the sliding storage on the slk looks ten times better than the little cup the base units come with and when its painted silver will look stock. so i think im doin that until i can find something to do with the cupholder situation. because i go to college and need a cup holder its the only time i use my car is to get some food
