I just bought my Crossfire 2 weeks ago. Today was the first day I was really able to drive it. I made the mistake of deciding to eat lunch while driving around running errand. The place I went to serves drinks in styrofoam cups. After just a few drinks of my soda, I tried putting the cup back in the cupholder & the dam thing poked a hole in the cup. here I am driving in traffic, holding a cup spurting pepsi all over my car. I was finnally able to stop & throw the whole drink in the trash, but not before about a quarter cup of soda spilled on my leather seats plus a little went on the console, door panel, & carpet. I am sure everything will clean up, but I certainly learned a lesson today

 

It sounds like you won't be joining the "cupholder" club in another thread. I traded mine out for the bin.

Don't feel too bad .. I used my cupholder once too ... but for almost 3 years, the only use it's gotten is when either I or MrsS closes it after she has accidentally opened it ... after seeing Jame's bin, I'm thinking of getting one of those instead ... at least it would be functional ...

 

Steve, I really wouldn't call the ' bin' functional yet. I haven't decided what exactly to use it for

But I can tell you this, it is so nice not having that thing jump up right in your way when least expected. Mine was constantly in the way when I used auto-stick.

I haven't had any trouble with my cup holder but I always make sure that I have that little cardboard ring they give you at Starbucks where the little progs sit. I never pops up on its own so I guess I didn't get a cupholder ghost. Maybe mine is the only good one they made!!

 

no doubt in my mind what I'd use a bid for ... I don't like the idea of having my FastPass* stuck on the windshield ... I could just drop in into the bin, but have it handy to hold up when crossing the bridge ... right now, it rides along side the e-brake handle but that's not ideal ...

*( A device that enables me to pass through the toll gate at one of the bridges without having to stop and pay ... there is a credit balance on the FastPass and it is electronically debited when I go through the toll gate)

I saw that thread ... if I get the bin and get it installed, I could be persuaded to give my cupholder up ... I know you are looking to not pay and arm and a leg, but I wouldn't want both ... just one or the other would do just fine ...

 

The cupholder serves a great purpose.................remove it and use it for target practice!

 

I still don't understand why people have the need to drink and drive. What did you guys do in the 70s and 80s when there were no cupholders?

 

No one (including me) is allowed to drink or eat in my car.

 

Well, let's see, '70-late '79-wasn't born yet, late '79-'89, not positive, but I probably just carried my drink with me in the back seat...LMAO

On a serious note, I have owned a 1950 Studebaker P/U, 1960 F100, 1957 210 wagon, etc. and in those it went between my legs. Kinda tough trying shift those 3-on-the-trees like that though.

 

Same thing I do now when I've got a cupholder that doesn't hold cups ... hold it myself or better yet, have MrsS hold it for me ...

oh, and thanks for not asking about conditions before the 70s ... that allows me to pretend I'm not old enough to have driven before that while at the same time, it doesn't require me to remember further back ...

 

I use mine to hold my Blackberry Bold. It fits perfectly.
