Default Shorter seat - Tall Man Conversion

ok, im tired of being cramped in the car at 6'2". im ready for a new seat and am willing to give up the power and heaters to be comfortable in the car.

before i go thru and get ours in and make a jig for the mounting bracket/sliders lets agree on a seat so i dont hear "you shoulda used this seat instead".

here is the one i have my eye on...
http://www.sparcousa.com/pseats_street.asp?id=645

we get discounts on sparco and recaro so it will most likely be one of those.

The Torino 2 is a more comfortable but probably a little taller of a seat. I will be lurking around seeing how things pan out Rob.

Question Re: Shorter seat - Tall Man Conversion

Virgin posting here. I am 6' 2" as well, and tried a Crossfire two years ago, only to leave the vehicle (2005 roadster with power seats) swearing at Chrysler for having such a great car that clearly would not fit even a 72 inch driver. To my great surprise, I tried another 'new' 2005 crossfire (coupe, simple seats) and was shocked to have a full inch of headroom clearance. Knowing that I have not shed 3", I must assume that the base seat gives some additional headroom, and the flip top must take up some more.
My question is - how much higher are power and / or heated seats compared to base cloth seats? Could I replace my cloth seats with leather / power / heated seats without loss of headroom?

I fit in my SRT-6 Coupe and Im 6'3". Now if I ever wanted to go to the track on a non private event I would be screwed. There is no way I can get a helmet on..... If I wear a baseball hat it touches the headliner. I dont know how Riot does it in his roadster.

I fit in the roadster not the coupe.
I am 6' 3"

As for helmet race with the top down

If the top is up you have ta sit funny and can't put your head back to turn to the sides as the helmet hits the crossbar...oh and I have worn the paint away on the crossbar and some stickers on my helemt from the crossbar

I'm 6'1" and the fit is JUST right. (Coupe)

If I spike my hair, a little, it brushes the ceiling of the cabin.

If I go over a big bump, unexpectedly, I would probably be in serious pain.

If I had to wear a helmet... well... that isn't even an option.

Honestly, I couldn't give up my seat warmers

Does anyone know if the leather or power seats rob some of the headroom the cloth seats provide? If so -how much? I'd love to put in leather seats, but not if I can't sit upright in my coupe.

I'll chime in. From what I have read in this forum, the cloth base seats give about 2" more head room than the leather. I have leather, am 6'2" and really need more room and would like a softer seat. That leather sure looks nice though .

Hey do what waldig did. Im not 100% sure what he did but he said
"Mega ***** but did not stop me. Short of finding a better seat, I cut out the rear posts flush with the floor and bolted thru. Assed a brace and bolts from beneath, gained about 1 inch total but it was a gain. Pulling the seat is a real lift, put towels down to prevent scratches to the door jamb. A friend could assist a bunch, unplug the connectors first!!!!!!!!!!"

I'm 6'2" also, and I fit in my 04 with about 1" of headroom clearance. I have a 32" "inseam" so maybe that's why I fit.
Before you spend lots of cash on an aftermarket seat, make sure you've tried every position that your power seat offers.
To find a seating position just right for me, here's what I did.
While standing outside of the car, I put the seat down to it's lowest position, with the seat bottom as flat as it will go.
Put the seats "back cushion" into a 90 degree angle.
Move the seat back as far as it will go until it's up tight against the "Great Wall of Mercedes".
Now sit down and start moving the seat forward, and start raising the front of the seat until your knees come in contact with the lower dash, then move the seat backwards about an inch or two.
Next, tilt the back cusion as far as it will go until it hits the wall.
I hope it works for you as well as it does for me.

Someone could always trade me their leather seats for my cloth! Im on 5"10, so leather would be just fine for me.... I know, good luck!

I sat in a base coupe and was instantly aware of the added head and leg room. One of these days I'll change seats cuz it felt really comfortable with the added leg room.
Wouldn't be giving up heated seats cuz mine (drivers) doesn't work anyway.

I tested both before I bought my 2007 base model. There is about 2" of difference in headroom between the base and limited models. This is simply because of the heating and power units for the seat.

I am 6'3"ish and fit in the crossfire just fine, although it seems every morning on the way to work i hit my head over bumps...Mainly because I think I am still half asleep and not aware of what kinda of headroom I'm leaving myself. The other 98% of the time, its perfect.
