did you spill something sticky in your car?

my damn gf back when we first bought mine (with only 600 miles on the car) spilled tea in my car and made the buttons stick. i sprayed a tiny bit of wd40 in the switches and it never stuck again.

My son spilled soda in mine. Still a little sticky, but haven't been brave enough to spray anything in there.

This is a 10 minute fix with a manual and a 15 minute fix if you have an auto.

Manual:

Pop out the shift boot, take your fingers and pull up on the back part of the shifter surround bezel inside the hole that boot covers, take a flat blade screwdriver and while putting light pressure on the button, pop out the first tab and then while still applying pressure to the switch, do the same for the other tab holding in the switch. Take your fingernail and slide it in between the middle part of the switch and the switch cover(silver part on top that rocks back and forth) and clean everything up with rubbing alcohol or other mild cleaner. Don't spray anything directly into the switch but rather spray or pour it onto a paper towel and then clean black part of the switch and the silver button part, the hole that the switch goes in and the reassemble everything in the reverse order that you took it apart.

Automatic:

Take your fingernail and slide it in between the little trim ring that goes between the shifter surround bezel and the shifter and pry up very slowly all the way around. It will give a lot of resistance but it will come out rather easy if you take your time and work it out slowly. After that, follow the same instructions above.

Fantastic !!!!! Read your answer to window button sticking and my husband followed your instructions for cleaning behind button, as we had the same problem.
Heaven knows what had been spilt down there it was disgusting lol :-) but it's all clean and sparkerling now and doesn't stick at all.
No amount of spraying would have shifted that mess, so many thanks for your advice.

Spilled any drinks on it lately, if so take the switch out and try to clean it.
