Angry sticky window switch.

So, long story short, thanks to some soda, I now have a sticky passenger window switch. What's the best way to clean this?

I would suggest isopropyl alcohol. Remove the switch and submerge the switch in the alcohol. Then let it fully dry, it should pretty much eat away any stickiness. It might take a few tries but it should clean it right up.

Do I have to take the console apart then? How would I go about doing this?

This is assuming you have a 6speed. The boot around the shifter comes up pretty easily and then carefully lift up on the console where the switch is. The switch then will just pull out from the console. Unplug the switch from the cable in the bottom and then follow the procedure above.

I've had mine out a few times because the switch keeps pushing through the console, I'm getting the dealership to order a new console piece under warranty.

GOOD LUCK!

Yeah, I have a 6 speed. So there's not much holding the switch in? I'll have to go try this.

This alcohol is liable to eat any paint as well so be warned.

I'm planning on using my glass cleaner actually. The stuff gets rid of grime pretty well. Shouldn't have anything to worry about.

I bought my car used and assummed that someone had spilled soda in the passenger side switch since it was sticky. I thought about cleaning it but it works fine and actually works like an "auto" switch. Push the button once and the window rolls down without having to hold it. I know, I'm a dork

Thumbs up Re: sticky window switch.

been there done that - many times.

the best solution is spray the switch with WD40 and use a brush to move the WD40 in the switch area... rock the switch back and forth multiple times... and wipe away the residue.

this will remove any sticking of the switch and function as normal without any side effects.

I thought our Xfire's had an auto-down window function... Mine does.

Well I took oppizzippo's advice and it was a lot easier than I thought it would be. At first, I thought I was gonna break the thing, then I couldn't figure out how to get the switch off the plate. Finally did, but I couldn't get it disconnected, so I just wiped it down and the inside of the hole it sits in on the plate, and it helped, but for some reason (even though it works normally off the plate) it still sticks very slightly when put together.
