Thanks for the info guys, I will be removing mine sometime soon to recover it and soime pillars.

Steve - what do you mean when you say, 'sail panel trim'?

Any other tips I should know about removing it, or just start somewhere and pull?

John, the sail panels are the areas behind the rear side windows and to the right and left of the rear window. The culprits that create the blindspots!

The service manual is a good resource to know the sequence. I did it this way:
a.- Remove the sun visors (2 screws for each)
b.- Remove mirror from the base glued to the glass (pray then pull straight down)
c.- Remove the plastic over the interior lights (popsicle stick works)
d.- Remove the 2 screws holding the interior light assembly on
e.- Unplug the 2 wire conections (interior lights and garage door opener)
f.- Remove the side pillars (I inserted 2 wooden kitchen utensils from the top and pulled rather hard towards the interior, they snap off)
g.- Pull the rear sail trim panels down until one plastic clip lets loose
h.- Pull the center of the headliner push pin down (by the rear glass) and remove the trim pin
i.- Move the seats all the way front and recline them all the way back
j.- Gently pull on the perimeter and it will come down
k.- I don't know how I got it out the passenger door but thats where it comes out, take your time so you don't damage the corners. It's real tight and won't come out if the angle isn't just right. You can't come out diagonally or backwards or any other way except the installed orientation, front slightly diagonally down. Good luck!
l.- I forgot to remove the garage door opener but it was unplugged and come out with the headliner.

Everyone feel free to add tips and hints.

Les

John, I think Les covered everything. I know on the auto sticks, removing the shifter **** gives a little more clearance. It is a very tight fit through the passenger door opening.

Les, thanks a million, I did not realize this would be covered in the service manual.

Lakeview, after having that in the car for a while, would you let us know how you like it? I am going to do mine in CF and worry that going from light gray to nearly black will make the interior look even smaller.....

With the headliner black, it does make the inside of the car seem smaller. I have had a black headliner for around 3 years now and I would not go back to grey

My headliner is still in my office on top of the filing cabinets. Man, I've got to stop spending all my time on the engine and suspension and get it recovered and back in the car. It's time to come clean time folks ....... it's not recovered and in the car because my head hits it with the helmet on. I need a lower seat or I'm just going to mess it up again anyway.

You don't need to remove the mirror or shift ****. Fold seats foward put passanger window down and take out side door. WORK SMARTER NOT HARDER

Thanks for the list, helped a bunch. I found that the rear tabs of the liner have small indentations which allows them to fold, clearing the quarter window seal. After that it literally slips right out!

From a former write-up :

Gee - this was a dumb post - please ignore.
