Default Painted Seats (BACK)

I just got this idea. Why don't we have the seats done like the porsches? It looks way cool when seeing painted seats from the back.
I gather you just make a mould, then make it out of some sort of plastic, paint it, glue it to the back of the seat, on with the SRT6 decal.Voila! No need to be whole seat as only top is sticking up. I am thinking of making one! Thumbs up or down?

P.S. Sorry for the mspaint, no PS at work.

Different, I like it. Would you do body match, or paint it silver to match the interior trim?

I guess white so it would stand out more. Could be very nice having the decals somewhat embossed. Not really that hard/costly to do. I was surprised noone with a coupe has done this before.

I think the reason it has never been attempted is because the coupe's large rear C-pillars block most of the inward view. Most people have tinted windows, so the tint would obscure your view of it unless you drive around with the hatch up.

From the side, it wouldn't be readily visible unless you tilted your seat forward... and, there's nothing behind the seat we need on a regular basis.

On a roadster, this would be a great mod because the seat backs are visible to motorists behind you.

It sure would look good with a white underbite and white rear-view .. And maybe white seatbelts.

I contemplated painting the actual plastic seat backs graphite after I bought the coupe, had it torn down, and was already painting like 10+ pieces body color, but as Jon pointed out, its not that visible. And to really do it right, you would want to prep and paint the actual pieces, not something you glue to them.

Good idea, but lots of effort to pull off, post pics if you do it, I am sure it would look killer...

If you're going to do it do the whole seat back. Otherwise it wouldn't appear to be a factory option.

I like it though

He is saying to paint the OEM seatback, entirely - not use an additional part...

Well if you look at the seat its just the bootom of the seat that is in plastic. the other is in cloth fabric and leather.

I have made two of them and they look really cool. Leaving them to the painter soonish. pics to follow.

White seatbelts will get really nasty, really fast. I have a hard enough time keeping my white steering wheel clean. I wouldn't even want to start in on the seatbelts. It makes the detail **** in me shake just thinking about it......

Looks good! VHT makes a paint "plate finish" that looks like aluminum if you are looking for something more metallic.

Thanks! I am not sure yet what to choose. But I want it to be more metallic more maybe white carbon fiber. I have made two of them in glassfibre and have been patching and sandpapering these basterds for a while now. (have actually not been doing anything for about a month but will continue when I have more time) The SRT logos will be more engraved into the seat. So far the prototypes look really good in the car. Maybe overkill on a coupe but hey, if a Porsche has it so can I

That is the idea at least. This was to show if anyone would like to have this.
I can imagine in carbon colors this piece will look tremendous and with the srt6 decal it looks expensive aswell. Would anyone be interested?

I would, depending. I would probably want something like a hyper silver to match the interior or body color, which is ssb

Fubu, I think if you get everything tweaked, it will be a fantastic mod, especially for the convertibles.

I would think it best to paint in actual body color as to match the finish as well as possible. The only thing to consider, depending on how the seat is adjusted there is much more a potential for paint damage against the rear bulkhead cover, I know most people have their seats almost touching this now, so not much room....
