Default Dash help please

Being ever so careful removing the headliner today, I still managed to put a scratch on the dash trim. It already had some imperfections but now it needs attention. It can make it look new where it is, but I would rather remove the trim piece to paint.

The part in question is #6 just above the cluster. Must I remove the cluster? or will it just snap out of place? I figured someone here that has had the cluster out could tell me how this trim is fastened.

Thanks, James

How deeply is it gouged? I think Plasti-Dip would be a perfect fix for it.

I *believe* it just snaps out of place... but I would feel more comfy making that statement if someone could try it on a salvage unit first... Would hate for you to break a clip on an obsolete piece

I just checked some photos on my computer, looks like the cluster needs to come out before that will pop off

James, I did the same thing and thought I could remove it. I found mine was glued to the dash pad and I was afraid I would make a mess of it trying to remove it because it is very thin. I refinished mine in the car (once I put the headliner back in, took about an hour to mask everything carefully including the new headliner) with Vinyl Dye/Paint - Product Details - Parasol Inc. they matched the colour and texture perfectly. I agree with John, the Plastidip should work, just not sure if it comes in a colour match. Good luck!

Thanks, James

It seems like anyone and everyone who has the headliner replaced experiences the same problem. I had mine done and he did the same thing. It's not too bad or noticable but.........it still sucks. There are some trim piece covers for this but I still like the black. Mine will have to wait for now, but as I noted it's not horrible. My suggestion to EVERYONE who is, or is having theirs replaces it to cover the dash and console with protective covers, towels or other soft items to hopefully prevent this from happening.

Actually I did have a towel on that part. The sharp corner still made it's way through the towel and into the plastic.

Thanks to John and Steve for the advice.
