Default Problem With Finish on Glove Box Door

My grandchildren occasionally bump the glove box door with their shoe causing a slight dirt mark on the door. Nothing serious. It comes off easily with a damp cloth. No soap or cleaner. Just water. The problem is that the dark slate gray comes off on the cloth with the dirt and when the glove box dries the finish is shiny instead of the original dull finish. This seems to be limited to the glove box door.

Any ideas on why this is happening and what to do about it?

I believe that it is a sprayed on finish and as such is susceptible to damage. I just replaced my glove box for that same reason and was thinking that a flat clear coat on it might help solve the problem. My glove box was damaged when I bought the car, I will never allow any child in my car. I am waiting for my first grandchild but they will have to ride in Grandpa's Jeep! LOL

Thanks, Jim. I may give the flat clear coat a try.

Guys
Chrysler has the paint in aerosol spray cans only, for the interior trim, either light or medium slate gray. If you have the one color dash, you will need the medium slate color. The Mopar part number is EO5069094AA (XDV paint code) for the dark slate gray color, I just picked up a can for minor touch ups on the console and it matches perfectly.
This paint is made for vinyl and plastic use only.

My initial post has been changed with the correct paint code and Mopar part number for the dark slate color, sorry for the prior error, that was the lighter color of the two tone dashes that were available.

I see that SEM code # 17373 flexible spray coating is for the Dark Slate Grey interior. I will be getting a couple cans for future use.

I picked up a can of the SEM 17373 this week to respray parts of my interior as well, $16.00 from a local automotive paint shop. I was hoping to respray the console and glove box door before CAA#6, but when I cleaned up the interior and looked it over good, I realized that I need to refinish more than just those two areas. It will have to wait until I have a whole weekend to devote to removing the affected parts prepping and painting them and putting it all back together. My paint dealer recommended used of an adhesion promoter prior to painting, so I picked up a can of SEM's Sand Free # 38363, another $16.00.

Red Dog posted that he used it to spray 2 consoles, and that the color matched perfectly. ( his post on this subject are in the "what did you do to your4 crossfire today thread" post#3681)
