My A/c will work and then shuts off, yesterday drove with windows down and a/c didn't shut off and blew cold air all the time. Any suggestions as to what the problem mite be. Bob

Check freon an look for leaks. Driving with the windows down has no effect on the a/c.. Are you using to interior recirculate button?

The A/C is shut off by the ECM for the following reasons:
  • High engine temperature (not sure if this is the same sensor as the temp gauge or not)
  • If the ECM loses control/communication with the Fan Control Module (the module that runs the engine cooling fan, not the cabin fan)
  • An indication that the system (Freon system that is) is of either too high or too low pressure
  • A throttle position of 'full open' or near full open (indicating that to the ECM that you are demanding maximum power, maybe for passing)
  • Probably other reasons that I don't know about
  • Probably other reasons that I do know about, but cant remember right now

The Climate controller module in the console also plays a part here. The controller won't engage the compressor unless the cabin fan is on at least a "1" setting, that is, if you don't have the fan running the A/C is locked out. NOW, I am unsure (since they have never released an actual diagram or document on the Climate Controller) if the module is watching just the fan switch position OR if it is watching the output of the module being sent to the "fan resistor". If there is a fractured solder connection in the climate controller module's fan circuit (and that has happened and it means the cabin fan does not work), then I'd suspect the A/C would be locked out. If the cabin fan is running while the A/C is not working, I'd dismiss this as a cause.

You might be experiencing the intermittent operation of the HVAC module due to loose connections between the control boards (there are 2). There is a write-up on this in the forum. Attached is a PDF file I made of the post. One of the major DIY fixes by a fellow XFire owner. A lot of us get plagued by intermittent operation of the HVAC system. Hope this helps.

If you cannot find it you should look in my problem index below. It has been there since posted it, I slightly added to it It is in the AC section funnily enough, sometimes I think that I will abandon the thread and not keep it up to date as it takes time to do but it has been read over times so I guess someone reads it, just not you.

If you cannot find it you should look in my problem index below. It has been there since CL770 posted it, I slightly added to it . It is in the AC section funnily enough, the thread has been read over 135,000 times, just not by you.

I like the updated version. Nice having the HVAC Module removal procedure as an initial step before repairing the HVAC module per CL770's write-up. Nice job!

I was hoping someone else would respond; You do not give us much info to work with.
First off it is not a "keypad". What you have pictured is the HVAC Control Module.
Start by reading through these threads in the Heating and Air Conditioner Section : Index of Crossfire repairs

PS What ever you do DO NOT take it to a dealership!

I hope you have found the reading of the afore linked threads helpful. They give many solutions. Here is something that has helped me with electronic contacts that are simply old and not functioning as they should; Detoxit5 is the best cleaning solution to contacts I have found. You spray it into any opening you can find on a switch or potentiometer, spin the pot or open close the switch while it is wet and give it a minute to dry. Works really well. Here is a link at ebay; deoxit5
