CarMax Purchase??
Hey everyone--
I plan on purchasing my Crossfire in about a year and wanted to know if anyone purchased theirs from a CarMax store??
And if they did, did they have a good or bad experience??
I trust their inspection policy and would like to buy from them rather than an individual.
Thanks!!

I used to sell cars, and although I'm happy with my purchase (I purchased from a big name dealership, not a Carmax, or the dealership I used to work for), I messed up rule number 1: Be sure of what you're buying.
My roadster was advertised as a limited, so I negotiated as such. Only after looking back over my carfax reports did I notice that the car I ultimately purchased was NOT a limited, and I had negotiated the price like it was a limited. Although I thought I got a killer deal for a limited, I got a crummy deal (although still under Edmunds, and Kelly Blue Book) for a base model.
Ultimately I'm not too upset because i didn't want leather seats anyway, but i bet I coulda gotta another $1000-1500 off the price if I had known before I purchased the car.
So take that as a lesson learned. I talked to a friend of mine who worked at another dealership (under the same ownership), who talked to my salesman, and sales manager who all profusely appologized as an honest mistake (and I believe them). JUST BE SURE OF WHAT YOU'RE BUYING.

I bought my xfire from CarMax and I think they are no better or no worse than any auto dealer. The one advantage in their favor in my opinion is that they have their own shipping arrangements so if the car you want is from another state you don't have to hassle with the shipping. You still pay for the shipping of course but at least that is one headache you don't have to contend with.
The only problem I had with them was their aggressive push to use their own financing. Even though I was paying cash for the car they would not give me until the weekend (four days away) to pay for it and wanted me to sign up for their financing for the four days at a piddly sum of $20. So if you live more than an hour away from their nearest location then this might be something to keep in mind.
